"You have power over your mind, not outside events." Some days, Marcus Aurelius feels less like an ancient Roman emperor and more like the dude who somehow knew exactly what 2026 was going to feel like. “You have power over your mind, not outside events.” That shit is worth remembering in today’s absolute stinking dumpster fire of an existence. This is especially true for the writers, indie authors, publishers, booksellers, artists, reviewers, and everyone else in this wonderful, slightly unhinged bookish community trying to create something meaningful. Algorithms change, sales fluctuate, posts disappear into a stinking black hole, plans fall apart, and the world generally refuses to cooperate. We can't control that shit. We CAN control the page we write today or the book we finish. We CAN control the post we pour our hearts and souls into or the person we encourage and support. We CAN CONTROL the idea we refuse to abandon and the small bit of hard work we put into everything when nobody seems to be paying attention or even give a shit. So if things have been difficult lately, hang in there, my Bookish friends. Keep writing, reading, creating, and most of all, KEEP SUPPORTING ONE ANOTHER. Take care of what is yours to control, and try not to give the rest of the assholes more space in your head than they deserve. Marcus had that shit figured out two thousand years ago. We’re still working on it. One more thing... for the "Send me this post" bots... fuck you. #marcusaurelius #meditations #stoicism #bookstagram #bookishcommunity #bookcommunity #indieauthors #indieauthor #writersofinstagram #writingcommunity #authorsofinstagram #booklovers #classicliterature #classics #nomadsclassics

I have to take a moment to thank all the amazing Moms who participated in the very first cohort of Rooted in Motherhood! It was such a beautiful experience to see mothers choosing themselves, showing up with love, honesty, and intention. Last month was truly special, filled with connection, reflection, and community that reminded us all that we’re seen and supported. We’re closing out the year with one more group! The next Rooted in Motherhood series will be held on December 6, 13, and 20! Tickets will be available this Friday. I can’t wait to be in community and continue this journey of wellness, truth, and motherhood together. 💛
