Meet Laxmi Yuvraj Babar, a pomegranate farmer from Dhokmod, Man taluka, who has spent the past 15 years growing her farm. Today, she manages an orchard of more than 1,500 pomegranate trees, alongside five dairy cows that provide an additional source of income for her family.

For the past five years, Laxmi has been associated with Mann Deshi, regularly conducting soil testing through the Agriculture, Soil & Water Testing Centre and using the recommendations to better manage fertilizer use and the health of her orchard.
Her focus, however, goes beyond production. At the Mann Deshi Mahotsav in Mumbai, Laxmi accessed a new market for her produce, selling nearly 500 kg of pomegranates at ₹400 per kilogram.

Now, she is taking the next step into post-harvest value addition. Through Mann Deshi, Laxmi received a solar dryer, which she is using to produce anardana (dried pomegranate seeds) with a longer shelf life and greater potential for value addition.

Rather than relying only on the sale of fresh fruit, Laxmi is exploring how more value can remain with the farmer after harvest.

Her story shows how women farmers are looking beyond production, using new technologies to create more from what they already grow.
