This October, we gathered at the Miami City Cemetery for Graveyard Poetry: A Workshop at Nightfall 🥀🕯️

Inspired by the 18th-century Graveyard School of Poetry, returning project managers Kira Rosemarie and Manny Saints brought poets together to reflect on mortality, spirituality, and the cyclical nature of life and death. There were sleepy oak trees, candlelit paths, and many moments for quiet meditation in the calm of Miami’s oldest graveyard.

We ended the night with an open mic, enchanted by our community’s words. Through poetry, we collectively honored the memories of loved ones, wondered about life’s biggest mysteries, and connected over our shared hope for a life well lived.

Thank you to all who attended, and to Manny, Kira, and Antwan—the cemetery’s groundskeeper—for a very special night 🪦🖤

Graveyard Poetry: A Workshop at Nightfall, is the encore installment of Kira Rosemarie and Manny Saints’ sold-out 2025 poetry festival project held at the historic Miami City Cemetery.

We’re thrilled to bring this workshop back, due to popular demand, on October 12th, just in time for the first chill of the season 🍂

Following light refreshments and a lesson on the Graveyard Poetry genre led by Kira and Manny, participants will have 1 hour to explore the grounds, reflect, and write poetry at their own pace. We’ll gather for an open mic at sunset before disappearing into the night 🌖

Dark delight lingered in the air at Graveyard Poetry, a one-of-a-kind poetry workshop held this past April and led by poets Manny Saints and Kira Marie. 🥀

The vibe? Goth picnic. 🖤 As guests gathered at the historic Miami City Cemetery, they were greeted with white roses—a thoughtful touch from Manny and Kira—before enjoying local mango, cafecito, and pastelitos (because it’s Miami) in a picnic setting.

After a brief history on the cemetery and the Graveyard School of poetry, participants were free to wander the grounds and draw inspiration from the headstones, landscape, and stories beneath their feet. We reunited, later, on the lawn to share what we wrote. In a moment of delightful surprise, the cemetery’s groundskeeper joined in as well, sharing a poem inspired by the workshop.

Another surprise came in the form of an attendee’s ties to the cemetery. Katherine Wakefield (@bombshellbookslinger), shared that her family had been buried at the cemetery for over 100 years, adding a powerful layer of personal resonance to the afternoon.

We would like to express our immense gratitude to the Miami-Dade County Parks and Rec Department for helping make this event possible. Thank you to Manny and Kira for dreaming the workshop up and bringing it to life with us.

On Saturday, April 26th, poets Manny Saints and Kira Rosemarie will guide participants through a poetry workshop at the Miami City Cemetery.

In the spirit of the Graveyard School of poetry, the workshop will explore themes of mortality, nature, history, and social commentary—and participants will learn about one of Miami's historic cemeteries.

Manny Saints is a Honduran-American poet and level 38 warlock from Miami. He enjoys community building through the art of expression and storytelling.

Kira Rosemarie is a poet, an artist, and a witch. Originally from Kentucky, she moved to Florida for love eight years ago.
