This is my third time having a go at this exact dresser, but this time I was inspired by a coastal dipped piece by @rajputrefinishings.

This subtle sage is freaking gorgeous. This is my first time using @farmhousepaint and this Evolution paint is the literal shit. It dried in half an hour and is fully cured in 25 hours. WITH NO PRIMER 🤯🤯

The upper third was stripped to raw and washed in a cool toned taupe from @benjaminmoore, the drawers were given the spa treatment thanks to salve from @wiseowlpaint, and the original hardware lightly sprayed in a true gold from @rustoleum.

I absolutely love how it turned out.

These chunky girls needed a little modernizing, and while I loved the burlwood veneer on the tops, the bodies had to be black.

After cleaning with PrePaint Cleaner, I stripped the tops with acetone and sanded them back to raw. I stained them using a water based wood stain in “Dark walnut” and sealed with three coats of satin poly.

The bodies were painted with the deepest true black from Farmhouse Paint-a fast drying acrylic resin that sprayed like literal
GLASS. Like fast drying as in 20 minutes. And cured by the next day.

After slapping on some wallpaper and furniture salve in the drawers, they’re ready to go. 🖤

When I started this account, I was squeezing furniture flips into my toddler’s nap times. I had no idea what this little corner of the internet would turn into, or how much it would change my life.

Since then, I’ve learned skills I never imagined I’d master, tackled projects that once felt way out of my league, hosted giveaways (10K!), met the most incredible people, and had brands I once looked up to become part of my journey.

Somewhere along the way, a hobby became a business. The nap-time flips became full-time work. And this little account became so much more than a place to post furniture.

There have been a LOT of trial-and-error moments, questionable decisions, and pieces that nearly sent me into a full-blown crisis (Anyone remember T-Money?). But there have also been opportunities, friendships, support, and a community that has made this journey so much more meaningful than I could have ever imagined.

To everyone who has followed along, shared my work, cheered me on, trusted me with your furniture, supported my business, or opened a door for me along the way: thank you. Truly.

Turns out, sometimes changing your life starts with a piece of shit furniture and a few hours during nap time.

This table leg was missing a chunk, so my steps to repair it differ just a tad because I’m staining it.

I used @ilumiliteco Amazing Mold Putty kit-mixing equal parts of A and B together until uniform in color. After rolling the mold on to the leg, I let it set for about 20 min. You can then fill your mold with some sort of epoxy putty- I used @minwaxusa high performance wood filler; similiar to Bondo or Evercoat.

If you tape around the missing chunk it’s way easier to sand it all. It takes a little nuancing to get the shape right, but once the sanding is finished, you can blend the repair as normal.

I used @mohawkfinishing Blendals to blend it in as best as I could, sealed with shellac, then I added a final layer of poly. Shellac can be quite shiny if left by itself.

It is NOT perfect. I’m not the best at blending in these types of repairs. This was a little larger than my usual fills. But you don’t get better without practice ! I will say I don’t think anyone would ever notice unless they were looking for it. 😬

Story time ..

I grew up on a farm, and had Brandt Ranch Oak furniture in my home. So when my middle school teacher reached out to me to restore her grandmothers hutch and dining table, I was honored to do it.

This project has taken me the longest, has been the most work, but is hands down the most rewarding. This is MONTHS of scrubbing with wire brushes, sanding all of the rustic details by hand, making so many repairs… but it was worth it.

The boot marks on the bottom of the table are my favorite. Decades of past cowboys propping their feet on it, leaving their marks behind.

Here’s to the cowboys who’ve already sat at it, the ones who will sit here again, and all the stories this furniture has yet to collect.

Side note, this is my favorite country song of all time. @russelldickerson killed this cover and I saved this months ago just for this project.

Oh! So why am I taping it off this time?

1. The trim holding the glass in is TINY and OLD. I will destroy it with my sausage fingers.
2. I am not painting. So I cannot get masking liquid onto the wood.
3. I am taping off the whole thing bc I am going to spray my poly.
4. I knew how to use painter’s tape the whole time. I swear I make the choices I do on purpose. Mostly.
5. Just because you wouldn’t have done it that way doesn’t mean I’m a “fucking idiot”, Amy from Ohio. 🫶

No worries.

Just scrubbing every mm of this hutch with a wire brush bc whoever refinished this in the past wanted to REALLY highlight this fat ass oak grain. So there’s dark stain in every nook and cranny.

Oh and they stained the underneath aspect of it as well. So thanks for that, furniture person of yore.
