What a beautiful day at El Bembé! 💚

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Las Parcelas and Villa Africana Colobó for an afternoon of culture, music, storytelling, and community.

A special thank you to Termite TV Collective, PHLAFF, the artists, performers, organizers, volunteers, and everyone who helped bring this celebration to life.

And a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to NSNP’s Community Archive! Whether you recognized a familiar place or face in our historical photographs or picked up the phone to share a memory, your stories are helping us preserve the history of Norris Square for future generations.

We’re grateful for this year’s El Bembé and for the community that continues to bring these spaces to life.

¡Gracias a todos!

El Bembé is back this Saturday! 🌿🥁

Las Parcelas and Villa Africana Colobó will come alive with community-created stories, Bomba and Plena, music, memory and immersive art as we celebrate the fourth annual El Bembé.

Born from Places of Power: Las Parcelas, a collaboration between Termite TV Collective, Iris Brown and NSNP, El Bembé brings neighbors and generations together through the stories and culture rooted in these spaces.

This year, explore community-created augmented and virtual reality installations throughout the gardens, experience live Bomba, song and dance with El Junte, and spend some time with the NSNP Archive Activation, where you can look through photographs from our community history and leave a recorded memory of your own.

And there's even more happening that day: programming from Scribe Video Center's North Philadelphia History Festival begins at 11 AM with El Jardín de la Música y El Espíritu, followed by a Scribe reception at 3 PM.

📍 Las Parcelas + Villa Africana Colobó
📅 Saturday, October 10

2 more Paintings for Vamonos!
Digging through my phone for pics from Puerto Rico is how this whole thing got started almost 4 years ago.

What began as an exercise in learning PR's curves and edges through drawing blossomed into a life shifting relationship with the island where my parents and grandparents were born and raised.

The many shades of 💚. My monte. Our monte.
Home.

Still on cloud nine this morning after last night❤️
A year ago, we asked people to believe in an idea. They said yes.
Last night, so many of those same people came back together to celebrate the first year of The Domino Dialogues, and seeing that room filled with our Season 1 guests hit us in a way we weren’t prepared for.
These are the people who trusted us with their stories, memories, experiences, and pieces of our community’s history. Every conversation added something to the archive. Every guest helped us document a little more of who we are, where we come from, and what deserves to be remembered.
To have so many of you in one room, laughing, eating, reconnecting, and celebrating together was incredibly special.
Thank you to everyone who said yes to us in Season 1. Thank you for trusting the table, trusting the vision, and helping us build this archive one story at a time.
And somehow, one year in, Season 2 already has a waitlist 😂🎙️
Happy first anniversary to The Domino Dialogues🥂 ❤️

What we made together at Las Parcelas is headed somewhere... 🇵🇷
Last week we welcomed artist Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz, the Vámonos Pa'l Monte team, local artists and community members to Las Parcelas for VAMOS A HACER: The Communal Co-Creation Journey.
Over food and conversation, participants worked together on pieces that will become part of Vámonos Pa'l Monte, Wanda’s interdisciplinary public art and community engagement project.
On Saturday, October 17, the project comes together in a four-mile journey from Center City to Norris Square. You can walk the full route or join along the way, ending with a celebratory Bombazo at Norris Square Park.
NSNP is proud to be a project partner alongside Taller Puertorriqueño.
Come walk with us. Registration is free. Find the Oct. 17 details and registration through the link in our bio.

During the final weekend of El Colmado del Futuro @cherrystreetpier I had the privilege of sitting down with Héctor Tapia Aguilar to talk about his upcoming book, Nítido.

We talked about his journey, the inspiration behind the project, and the importance of preserving and documenting our stories, histories, and communities.

It was such a meaningful conversation and a beautiful way to close out an incredible pilot run of El Colmado del Futuro.
