Peter Chilvers is a musician and software designer, best known for creating the iOS apps Bloom, Trope, Scape and Reflection with Brian Eno, touring with Karl Hyde (Underworld) and collaborating with Tim Bowness.

Since 2006 he has worked as a musical and technical assistant to Brian Eno on projects including the soundtracks to The Lovely Bones and Spore, album collaborations with David Byrne and the Warp releases Small Craft on a Milk Sea, Drums Between the Bells and Lux. He worked as Assistant Producer on Eno’s 2016 release “The Ship” for which he also helped develop the multi-speaker installation which has been shown in many countries. His software has played a behind-the-scenes role in many of Eno’s recent albums.

A spacious and introspective approach to the piano is at the heart of much of his music, often expanded by orchestrated electronic textures, and he has recorded multiple instrumental albums as well as collaborations with vocalist Tim Bowness. Many of these were released through Burning Shed, the online label he co-founded in 2001 with Bowness and Pete Morgan.

He has recently played keyboards live with Brian Eno, first at his Acropolis concert with Roger Eno in 2021, and then for his acclaimed SHIPS tour across Europe with the Baltic Sea Orchestra.

In 2024 the Curious Music label began releasing Dust, a series of EPs blending his spacious and introspective piano improvisations with orchestrated electronic textures. taken in Cambridge Junction by @marblecalm

“Legend of the Hill” is out today — the next single from Altar of Tomorrow, the debut collaboration by @hustlekat and @ynes.mon

Altar of Tomorrow brings together two complementary approaches to composition: one rooted in instrumental performance and long-form development, the other shaped through studio process, texture, and spatial listening.

Also you are invited to join us this Sunday, February 1 at 12 PM CST for a Bandcamp Listening Party — the first opportunity to hear the album in full, experienced as a complete arc ahead of its February 5 digital release.

Hustlekat and Ynes Mon will be in the chat, joined by @marblecalm Peter Chilvers and visual designer @adamrgarcia sharing insight into the work and its making.

Listen today.
Listen together Sunday.

Curious Music is very pleased to invite you to join @hustlekat and @ynes.mon for a Bandcamp listening party and the first opportunity to hear Altar of Tomorrow in full on February 1st at 12:00 p.m CST.

Altar of Tomorrow is their debut collaboration and first release with Curious Music—bringing together long-form instrumental composition and studio-based sound design. Violin, electronics, and texture unfold with restraint and continuity, favoring pacing, duration, and forward motion over resolution.

The artists will be in the chat throughout the event, joined by visual designer @adamrgarcia and @marblecalm (Peter Chilvers), who contributed the evolving continuation of “Legend of the Hill.”

Listen together, ask questions, and experience the album as a complete, immersive arc.

Nostalgia alert! Remember Bloom, the music app by @brianeno and @marblecalm? This old-school iOS gem still works like a charm. Not the trendiest app, but it's easy to integrate with other instruments or just use for some calming tunes. We'll be discussing Bloom, ambient music, and more with Peter Chilvers on ANR soon!

A little while back, I was invited to be interviewed by @joeharveywhyte for his ambient show The Dream Stream on @sohoradio tonight at 10pm UK Time.

I discovered Joe was an extremely gifted pedal steel guitarist, who’d been mentored by BJ Cole, so I suggested we recorded a session together while I was there. It was heavenly, I think our playing styles fitted really well together.

It’ll be available online some time after the show goes out. by @marblecalm

Here’s the opening of Pulp’s performance at the Mercury Prize last night, but the BBC accidentally put the subtitles from Mrs Marple by mistake. Strangely plausible as lyrics from @jarvisbransoncocker

Shame Pulp didn’t win, but I reckon this might be good compensation. by @marblecalm

The BBC are accidentally running the subtitles for Mrs Marple over the Mercury Prize, and it’s rather wonderful. Some of the lyrics@sounds plausibly like @jarvisbransoncocker by @marblecalm

Embracing the Horizon is the third track from my Dust 4 album, and was written to accompany this beautiful drone footage from @radium_field. In their own right, Pylons aren’t particularly attractive, but there’s something geometrically appealing about seeing a line of them striding across a huge flat landscape.#pianotronica #dronefootage by @marblecalm
