Terence Spencer. 'Tip em up, Terry' engaging a V1 flying bomb over Southern England in the Summer of 1944.
Flying a 41 Sqn Mk XII Spitfire, Spencer had expended all of his ammo attempting to bring the autonomous missile down. However, his efforts had slowed the V1 down enough for him to pull up along side of the bomb. Eventually, using the turbulent airflow from his wing tip to upset the airflow of the V1, which caused the gyro to fail, sending the V1 crashing to the ground.

'Bulmer Bale Out' by Marc Heaton

In memory of this brave young chap, who, like so many others of his generation, rose to meet the threat without hesitation.

Acting Sub-Lieutenant (A) Geoffrey Gordon Robson Bulmer, RN, was one of 24 Fleet Air Arm volunteers to be assigned to RAF Fighter Command units from June 1940 onwards.
He was shot down during the Battle of Britain flying with No.32 (F) Sqn from the No.11 Group forward airfield at RAF Hawkinge.
On 20th July 1940, his unit intercepted a Luftwaffe formation of about 50 aircraft, consisting of Ju 87 Stuka Dive Bomber's with a large escort of both Me109's and Me110's which were attacking a convoy some 5 miles off the coast of Dover in the English Channel.
Geoffery Bulmer was shot down in his Hurricane Mk1 'N2670' (GZ-?) by Oblt. Josef 'Pips' Priller of JG 51 flying a Me109E-3, 'Yellow 1' Wknr.5057.
Geoffery is reported to have baled out into the sea but unfortunately he wasn't rescued and no one ever found a trace of him.
Like many of his Fighter Pilot colleagues, Sub-Lieutenant Bulmer was only 20 years of age when he was lost.
With no known grave, he is comemorated on the Lee-on-Solent Fleet Air Arm Memorial to the Missing of WW2. by @marcheatonart

Old Rachel's
'The First Glow'

The aim is to paint all the old ruins on Anglezarke, Brinscall, Turton, and Longworth Moors. These ruins, and the history of these moors has always fascinated me.

Once all have been painted, l intend to exhibit them all at a local venue. I hope you like the painting. Next up, Solomon's Temple on Brinscall Moor.

Old Rachel's Farm 'ruin'.

60cm x 30cm box canvas.

Old Rachel was the first to inhabit the farm. Possibly dating back to the early 18th century. She was considered a recluse by her peers and seen as a bogeywoman by the children living in the surrounding farms. People tended to shy away from her.

The painted composition approaches the subject from a contemporary perspective. Encouraging an awareness of elapsed time, whilst simultaneously implying a sense of the uncanny through associated implicit means.

Just as another busy day of flying instruction was coming to a close at No.8 SFTS, RAF Montrose, Angus, in the early evening of Friday October 25th 1940, it was struck without warning by a devastating low-level and precision attack by a section of 3 x He111-H3's from the 2nd Staffel/KG26 'Lowen', from Luftflotte 5 from across the North Sea in Norway.
This was no random operation, sections of Kampfgeswader 26's Heinkel's having crossed the sea at less than 100 ft to avoid RAF Radar coverage struck at numerous coastal sites along the North-East of Scotland.
