On July 25th 2022, the Health and Social Care Select Committee’s Expert Panel declared there is “no credible government strategy to tackle the situation” in maternity care. These are shocking statistics. And yet there are more. There is no way of overstating the extent of the maternity services emergency. ✨✨Join a demonstration near you on Sunday 20th November at 2pm. ✨✨Find a demonstration near you via the link in our bio. ✨✨Like, Comment, Share. #marchwithmidwives #maternityservices #midwives #nomoreexcuses by @marchwithmidwives

💙Midwifery matters💙 💙Midwifery today is a very different landscape 💙Thank you to Lucy @whitworthstillparents for inviting me and these other incredible women ⬇️ @leahhazard @amanahbirthandbeyond (zainab) @godfrey_isaacs @jenjenmason12 @holdingherspace 💙To talk about midwifery today 💙Ifs important to speak the truth about our challenges 💙But also balance that midwifery is an incredible profession and SOME trusts are doing good things! 💙Meanwhile we keep on campaigning for change 💙Tell me if your trust is doing great things in this challenging climate. Its important we talk about this too ⬇️⬇️⬇️ by @marchwithmidwives
🚨Jeremy HUNT🚨 🚨👏🏻well and truly embarrassed himself today 🚨Proven he has absolutely zero idea of what’s really going on in maternity! 🚨Proven he doesn’t care about women’s experiences 🚨Over all a complete disgrace ❌Using baby loss awareness week to make false claims! 🤬🫣 ❌Should be held accountable for nonsense misleading speeches he’s making! ⬇️ @jeremyhuntmp Take a look at the comment section in his post! And tells us your thoughts! 🚨Jeremy has never spoken to midwives or obgyn that is clear….we invite you @jeremyhuntmp come speak to us about front line midwifery! We can debate you all day! @andy.burnham we hope you do not support such BS! He should be held accountable! #midwife #nhs #maternitycare #midwiferymatters #maternity by @marchwithmidwives
💙NHS Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 💙 @nhsggc 💙Glasgow & Clyde have recruited 56 newly qualified midwives, to work across all areas of maternity including community! 💙Great news for them, families and the NHS 💙🇬🇧Uk needs to follow now ⚡️ 💙And immediately improve retention rates for midwives in general!! 💙🙏Keep your head up midwives 💫 @midwives_rcm (what work is being done in the uk?🇬🇧 @andy.burnham (Any news on NHS recruitment freeze?) @fundfuturemidwivesuk in parliament today ⚡️🇬🇧🙌 by @marchwithmidwives
Today is a HUGE day for the safety of UK midwives. It’s alleged that Basildon hospitals knew midwives were being exposed to dangerous levels of entonox (gas and air), took a whole year to tell staff and then took another year to rectify the situation. This should never have happened and it’s just the tip of the iceberg for midwives’ safety and employment rights. I’ll say it again: women and birthing people will NEVER be safe until midwives are safe. Our workplace is your birthplace. There isn’t some invisible dividing line. We all deserve better ♥️ by @marchwithmidwives
💙That time we met ANDY💙 💙NHS midwives and birth workers from Manchester @marchwithmidwives @marchwithmidwivesmanc 💙Dear @andy.burnham do you remember us? 💙We’ve protested outside your office 4 times 💙We met you twice, you held space and listened 💙We told you in 2023 how bad things where 💙Uk and Manchester maternity units where failing 💙Midwives leaving / short unsafe staffing 💙Toxic leadership 💙Unsafe clinical practice 💙increased intervention rates 💙We told the truth (and weren’t popular for it) 💙You connected us to Members from NHSE 💙And @midwives_rcm were invited 💙We received hostility from both because we exposed the lack of action…… 💙We had short term and long term solutions 💙Eventually it all dried up ….i believe you tried Andy… 💙Now you are PM we know you know how bad it is 💙Today you have acknowledged it publicly 💙Today you said you are committed to doing more..? 💙You might want to listen to midwives again? 💙Now there’s also no jobs for newly qualified midwives trained and waiting to work? 💙After 5 years of campaigning countless reports and investigations and watching things worsen we need action not WORDS! ⚡️What would you say to @andy.burnham about maternity if you could? Please tag him in the comments, and just maybe he might see this….🙏⚡️ ⬇️⬇️⬇️ by @marchwithmidwives
‼️• @rosietaylorjournalism ‼️ 🚨Trigger warning: maternity deaths🚨 We’re seeing record numbers of preventable deaths of women in maternity care in the UK. I spoke to @lbc to explain a little bit about why and what needs to change. Thanks to Clare Foges for giving this topic so much airtime on her show. #maternity #birthtrauma #womenshealth #midwife #maternitycare by @marchwithmidwives
🚨Birth center closures🚨 🚨Whilst visiting my mum I noticed this 🚨A birth center in West Yorkshire that was once fully functional closed…..it’s been closed for years! 🚨As a former BC midwife it breaks my heart 🚨This unit lays empty like many in the UK 🚨Or birth centers appear open but there are no midwives to work there 24/7 🚨Because we have been over 3000 midwives short in the UK 🇬🇧 for many years…. 🚨Yet newly qualified midwives ready to work have no jobs to apply for…. 🚨It’s not just about having a water birth 🚨Midwifery led care improves so many outcomes 🚨These closures directly impact the communities they serve ⬇️ ❌Limits Birth choices ❌Alters Birth experiences ❌Increases risk of interventions ❌Increases C-sections ❌Increases in patient stays ❌Increases considerable COSTS to the NHS ❌Decreases breastfeeding rates ❌Risk of postpartum depression & perinatal mental health decline ❌De skills midwives in physiological birth ❌Student midwives not observing/learning physiological birth skills ❌➡️More midwives leave 🚨People just accept it….😶‍🌫️🤯Tell me why this isn’t being addressed? ⬇️⬇️⬇️Because it really matters …. @andy.burnham you know exactly what’s going on in maternity….it should be priority ⚡️⚡️⚡️ 🚨Tell me if your birth center is open or closed? Because in Manchester i believe there are only 2 fully functioning BCs left 😢 People working hard to raise awareness on these matters and more ⬇️ @leahhazard @fundfuturemidwivesuk @midwiferysaphiya @hackneyhypnobirthing @marchwithmidwives @sheena_byrom #midwives #midwife #studentmidwifelife #midwifery #doula by @marchwithmidwives
