Marei Moldenhauer is the first woman to reach Essaouira, finishing in 4 days, 14 hours, and 20 minutes—nearly five hours faster than last year’s winner, Cynthia Carson, on an arguably tougher course. She also finished 8th overall in the general classification, the first time at AMR that a woman has broken into the top 10.

From the very start, Marei led the women’s race and never let up. Every time Control Car 1 saw her, she was composed, efficient, and having fun. She loved the route, and it showed in the way she rode. She said her favourite moment was after CP3, moving through the mountains as the sun was setting, just before hitting the sand.

She wasted no time at resupply stops. At the small shop in Afra, she sat eating an omelette with her sleeping bag already rolled out beside her, ready to pull down her eye mask, put in her headphones and tuck in as soon as she was done.

Her toughest moment? Not the mountains, sand, or freezing nights, but 30 minutes of tarmac with a headwind, where she couldn’t wait to get back off-road.

Marei rolled into the finish this morning with barely any voice left—probably from singing too much on the bike.

Well done on an incredible ride Marei. Chapeau.

The @taurusmountainrace is underway. Rolling out under pouring skies this morning, our ATR ultra-endurance athlete @marei.mol set off into the biggest adventure of her life 😤

A 1,440 km odyssey across Turkey’s most unforgiving off-road terrain, TMR is a new addition to the ultra-distance calendar. After winning GRAAALPS in the summer, Marei is ready to test her limits at the sharp end:

Last minute preps before I finally get out there and ride the @taurusmountainrace.
This will be my biggest race of the year, physically I feel well prepared. At the same time the past few weeks have been quite stressful, coming out of a 10-day work marathon at the hospital. So I guess I am now off to my „recreational“ vacay🫰🏻🌚

I’m really excited and looking forward to the route. Let’s see what it throws at us. So far it looks wet and uncomfortable. But there’s beauty in that.

September 👋🏻

I did enjoy the last days of summer, but everything else was just… a bit much these past few weeks to be honest.

I know my workload is high, and most of the time I think I can manage everything with a lot of structure and prioritization. But when something unexpected happens on top of that - like a loss in my family or simply a lot of work-related stress - I do realize there’s very little space left to actually process those things mentally.

Very, very grateful to have my people around me who ground me and give me the support I sometimes need 🫂 Even if it’s just a stupid very long ride into the night, a long hug, or a long call on the phone 🫶🏻.
With those people around me - everything is possible :).

Also - taking breaks is an incredible skill. I think I’ll get into that a bit more 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼.

Short story of how I won the @graaalps overall part 3:

I was actually very surprised that we were passing Verbiers – this caught me a bit off guard. Sixteen months ago I crashed on that exact ski slope while skiing, badly injured my knee and had two knee surgeries, 3 months on crutches and lots of Physio and a long rehab following…
I rode past the slope, looked down into the valley, gave it a quick middle finger and shed one or two tears. I think we’re good now. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

The last few hours brought another nasty thunderstorm, no mobile data in Switzerland and absolutely no idea how far behind everyone else was.
Only at the finish did I learn that the gap to the second rider was almost ten hours.

Thanks to everyone who helped me get to the start line. This one was special for so many reasons 💙

Short story of how I won the @graaalps overall part 2:

Day 2:

One big highlight was the shower and a fresh jersey and bib at the checkpoint (+ another 3 kgs of carbs for the second half of the race, used the gel mix, so saved around 800g of weight @maurten_official 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼).

The second day turned into a bit of a cat-and-mouse game with Joachim. We kept passing each other, but I just tried to stick to my own pace.

Slowly getting into my rhythm I also started to enjoy the race a lot, getting into flow state. The stunning landscape definitely made that easy. 😮‍💨

An unexpected thunderstorm on top of the Colle delle Finestre made me stop for some time in an old bunker. The downhill after the thunderstorm was very rewarding - on of the most beautiful passes I’ve seen so far…

During the night I slept in a cute hotel in San Didero. The owners were incredibly kind, I accidentally spoke French with them even though we were in Italy - then they were confused that I wasn’t French but talked French when I could speak Italian as well - confusion all the way but we understood each other👀. I had 1,5 hours of proper, very good sleep.

Short story of how I won the @graaalps overall part 1:

Day 1:

Start was at 12:00, it was hot. Luckily I seemed to be well heat-adapted after hot weeks of working in the hospital without air conditioning. 🫠 Reduced pace and lots of water helped.

The first night:
People often think I don’t see enough of the nature during ultras because I‘m always riding – also at night. For me it’s the opposite. Cooler air, fireflies and the Milky Way high up in the mountains are things I probably wouldn’t see otherwise.

One 10-minute power nap by the side of the road and another 25-minute power-nap in a very clean and warm public toilet. 8/10 sleeping spot.

Getting back on the bike was hard though – I was more in need for vacation than for racing probably, the weeks before have been quite stressfull. But I managed to get over myself and just ride my bike again.

𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙮𝙨 💪

@marei.mol won the GRAAALPS – not only the women’s category but the overall classification.

One year after double knee surgery and after recently taking 2nd at Traka 560. This isn’t a comeback story. It’s just Marei, doing what she does best in the endurance space.

Her next challenge? The all-new Taurus Mountain Race in October – 1,460km through some of the toughest terrain on the calendar.

History made.

@marei.mol gewinnt als erste Frau überhaupt die Gesamtwertung des GRAAALPS und schreibt damit Geschichte.

Bei einem Rennen dieser Länge entscheiden oft die kleinen Dinge:
💧 Marei hat sich vorab alle Wasserstellen in ihrer Route in der COROS App markiert und wusste dadurch immer, wo der nächste Stopp möglich ist.
🔋 Mit dem COROS DURA musste sie sich über das Laden ihres Radcomputers keine Gedanken machen.

So konnte sich Marei auf das konzentrieren, worauf es ankommt: in die Pedale treten.
