TAURUS MOUNTAIN RACE 2026 — A RACE WRITTEN BY Nature

For more than a year, I had been looking forward to this race. Waiting for it. Working towards it. Turning it over in my mind, day after day, imagining the possible scenarios, the struggles, the triumphs, the moments when the mountains would demand everything a rider had left to give.
The first edition of the Taurus Mountain Race (@taurusmountainrace) was supposed to be something extraordinary. @nelsontrees had described it as one of the most beautiful and spectacular races he had ever scouted. And I have little doubt that it would have lived up to every word.

But the mountains had other plans.

Five days in Turkey. The @taurusmountainrace starts tomorrow 9am.

Pretty grateful for this little escape from the chaos of the past few weeks. Looking forward to a few quiet days on the bike, taking it all in and enjoying the ride.

And a big thank you to all the lovely people I’ve had the chance to meet along the way. ❤️

Il suffit d’une fois.

Ils sont partis de @mandelieuville avec un rêve en tête : terminer la @graaalps. 820 km et plus de 20 000 m de dénivelé positif pour rejoindre @cransmontana.

Certains étaient prêts, d’autres un peu moins. Mais au milieu de toutes ces petites abeilles survoltées, une a immédiatement retenu mon attention : @marei.mol, avec son gravel @canyon équipé de prolongateurs aéro. Je me souviens m’être dit que j’aurais plutôt choisi une fourche suspendue pour un défi de ce genre.

Je l’ai observée, scrutée. J’en ai l’habitude maintenant. Je la sens concentrée, déterminée, focalisée. Je regarde @arnaudmanzanini. Il sait.

Cette femme va changer la GRAAALPS. D’une manière ou d’une autre, il y aura un avant et un après.

57 heures plus tard, elle remportait la course.

Il suffit d’une fois pour changer un sport, pour imposer le respect sans un mot et inspirer toute une génération.

Cette édition fut incroyable. Une semaine à traverser les Alpes que j’aime tant, à rencontrer des personnes extraordinaires et à vivre, à ma manière, l’aventure GRAAALPS.

Cinq nuits sous les étoiles. Six jours sur les plus belles pistes de ces massifs hors normes.

Her enthusiasm for ultra distance racing and bikepacking is infectious, and this year her podcast @detourscycling has helped pull back the curtain, offering insight into some of the characters across the sport, while also promoting the message of getting more women on start lines.

Race wins on Rene Herse tires are not unusual, but few are as inspiring as Marei Moldenhauer winning the grueling 1,300 km Atlas Mountain Race.

What makes Marei so inspiring is her smile as she expressed her emotions: “I’m really really happy and also proud, and then I’m also always a bit sad that it’s over. Because for four days, you’ve spent all your time on the bike and you know exactly what to do... and then it’s over.”

4 days 14hours 20mins is the time it took for @hunt.beyond rider @marei.mol to complete the 1300km @atlasmountainrace in Morroco, traversing Rocky Mountain passes, sandy deserts and relentless conditions, Marei completed the course in a blistering time taking the win in the women’s field and not only that pushing the men hard to finish 8th out of everyone. Rolling on our Proven XC Carbon Dynamo wheelset Marei was able to ride day and night as she persued victory.

It’s great to see so many FLINTA and our local folks were nominated - you don’t always have to search far and wide to find great people doing great things.

It probably also feels more relatable when someone from ‘next door’ is doing the thing you’re hoping to do than someone on the other side of the globe.

From a very obscure data analysis (in our head) it seems that we all like an Atlas Mountain Race participant, being a doctor or medical student helps in being fast and resilient, and that more and more FLINTA folks are claiming top places in mixed ultra events.

The racing is coming thick and fast at the moment, with the @brightmidnight.cc already nearing the business end having kicked off on Saturday last week.

Albion rider and recent HT550 record breaker @a_mccormack is in the lead with less than 100 miles left to ride, ahead of @angusyoung139, the previous record holder of the HT550. It is looking like a tight race, however Alex will have an additional 2 hours deducted from his finishing time after an in-race re-route saw him tackle some extra climbing. Rounding off the podium spots at the moment is @marei.mol who is also leading the women’s race.

Bright Midnight is a 1000km mixed terrain road and gravel ride starting and finishing in Tolga, Norway, and is the brain child of @justin.and.bikes, Albion athlete and the record-breaking winner of this year’s Tour Divide.
