if there’s ever one thing that everybody knows about me, it’s that i love john powell. he’s been my inspiration my whole entire life. no literally, i have been listening to him ever since i was 9 years old. i am 22 years old now. i have listened to john longer than i’ve played euphonium. just take that in for a moment. he is the reason i went to college & studied music composition. everyone always asks me why john is my favorite composer. the cliche answer would be “b/c his music is so great!” & yes i love his music, but for me, it’s the deep connection that i have when listening to the music. it doesn’t matter how long it’s been since i’ve last listened to his pieces. whenever i pop my headphones in & play his music, i get that same tingly feeling & chills all over my body just like my 9 year old self did when i listened to it for the very first time. i will never ever get sick of his music, & i can get sick of repetitive things pretty easily haha. it gives me comfort, a nostalgic feeling almost. & i have never listened to another artist & had the same feeling as i do when listening to his music. it never hits the same. his music helped me grow stronger, helped me when i was at my absolute lowest & helped me persevere & continue to have a passion for music. whenever i get a chance, i always try to share his soundtracks w/ others. whenever someone is in my car, i turn the volume up to max & play one of his scores (usually test drive, mammoths or hubris haha!) people always enjoy them & they never realize how underrated this man really is! i am so thankful that i can be alive while this musical genius is. it’s honestly super difficult putting into words how much this incredible composer means to me. if he ever reads this, i want to wish him the best birthday ever. keep creating amazing music! you are an absolute legend & i really hope i can meet you in person someday.
ps: his new score migration, he uses duck quacking sounds. who else would do that?? nobody. what a fucking icon! by @marentorri
