Silent Observers is the third film Eliza Petkova has made in the Bulgarian village of Pirin. This time, she tells its stories through the eyes of the animals.

Blending documentary and fiction, the film invites us to see the village and its inhabitants from a different perspective — through the quiet observers who share their everyday lives.

An exciting encounter with mycologist Francis Martin in the Vosges mountains makes us realize how little we know about the amazing fungi that are closer to us humans than animals. The fly agaric forms symbiotic relationships with coniferous and deciduous trees, ensuring the survival of trees and fungi for thousands of years. And thus also our lives. @derfliegenpilzfilm

Our filming about the king of the forest has begun! We are looking forward to exciting encounters and conversations all about Amanita muscaria, the fly agaric, this unique, profound, and wonderful creature that has fascinated and accompanied us humans for thousands of years. DoP @rene.dame, sound recordist @margethannes, and @thomas.grube are embarking on a journey through Germany, France and Switzerland. We would be delighted if you join us. 🍄 @derfliegenpilzfilm
