Happy...

... Hallo...

... Weenie 🌭 🎃 👻 by @margot.marge

In this house, 13 is a lucky number 🍀🎉

It's Peggy's 13th birthday today, and it's an extra special one. We almost didn't make it to this one because we came very close to losing her earlier this year. But Peggy pulled through and this old grandma weenie is still living her best life. 💃

Here is to many more!

RESEARCH IMPACTING THE COMMUNITY

So rewarding to present my research to the community that I study. Last weekend, I had the chance to present my experimental glass paint making to an audience of stained-glass conservators and makers. I pivotted the topic from being (art-)historical to being useful for securing a part of the unstable supply chain of materials for stained glass. With the many threats to the craft, we need to be creative to ensure stained glass doesn't die out after a 1000 year run. I hope my exeriments can inspire makers to take back some lost knowledge in their own hands, and that they have just as much fun as I did when I made my paints. 💃

Many thanks to @icon_stained_glass for having me!!!

Here is to the future 🍷

"The Past as Inspiration for the Future: Historical Glass Paint Preparation as a Viable Response to Supply Chain Instability," presented at ICON Stained Glass group conference 2026, "Data, Damage, and Decision-Making: The Next Era of Stained Glass Conservation York," 10 to 11 October 2026.

Sometimes research looks like this 🔥

I'm currently working on making my own glass paints according to historical recipe, and it calls for a certain type of lead glass. Since it is not commercially available, Hanne and I channelled our inner alchemists to make some.
Now I got to turn it into paint 🫠

Big thank you to @divamuseum for letting me borrow their melting furnace 🫰

Still kinda unreal that this has been my "office" view for almost a year now 🫨

Been getting some serious fomo from seeing all the welcome back to campus posts from @arthistoryrice and @ricehumanities. But then I look outside and check myself.
It's a pretty amazing privilege of being a visiting researcher at the @rubenshuisantwerpen, conducting my research right at the source.
