Batrun 2026! ๐Ÿฆ‡ ๐Ÿ–ค What an all-round beautiful experience it was doing the three peaks that watch over Cape Town, on a perfect night under the stars and a waxing gibbous moon. ๐ŸŒ” All the pre-event anxiety melted away as we began in fading light, with the front runners soon needing the torches that would dance their way up the peaks ahead of me. The volunteers on the peaks were a delight, celebrating the arrival of every entrant as if we were all Olympic champions. The crowd at the aid station at the bottom of Platteklip energised us with their cheering and noisy encouragement, both heading up and again on arriving back down. And then came a different kind of magic as I made my way up and down Lion's Head, in solitude in the early hours of a gorgeous morning. Sneeuberg (2027m)! A week in the Cedarberg pre-Christmas was the perfect way to end off a year of some incredible highs, shared with special people. Sneeuberg was a long day from the Eikeboom, with over 1200m to gain in altitude and a 25km round trip. But worth every step for the lovely company and floral beauties along the way, including the iconic Protea cryophila in bud. We were blessed with a couple of days of mild summer weather before the heat set in, and a separate little outing to the mighty Maltese Cross even drew some shivers. by @marianoliver

The Dinner Fork Deformity Blues It's a year since I had an ORIF procedure to fix a textbook Colles fracture (sustained on an unforgiving rock pavement on Gifberg) with a TriMed titanium volar plate. The nine-verse song I wrote in the othopod's waiting room won't allow me to retire anytime soon. At least I had recently acquired the dulcimer. No wrist flexion required! by @marianoliver
