Proud Immigrant🇲🇽🇺🇸 Tia Maria=21nephews/nieces&5 great nephews/nieces
Live to honor Eulogia y Jose who brought me to this country for a better life🕊️

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I was deeply honored and blessed to speak at the celebration of life for civil rights icon and welfare rights advocate Dr. Ruby Lee Duncan.

In the short time we got to know each other, we formed such a special bond. I was one of her ‘babies’ as she called us: the children who benefited from her activism, and that of the other incredible women of the Mother Power movement. We had food on our tables and food in our bellies thanks to these phenomenal women. (More on our special bond in Link in Bio)

There are no words to truly describe the pride I felt standing beside some of her 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandkids, and 13 great-great-grandbabies. I felt comfort, so much love, and my heart is happy knowing that her legacy lives on through these kind and caring humans.

I also know for a fact that her beautiful daughter @sondraphillipsgilbert and her wonderful brothers - who marched right alongside their mother on the
Las Vegas Strip - are working to ensure Ms. Ruby’s legacy and activism live on, so she is never forgotten.

To my sweet Ms. Ruby, I will always cherish the moments we shared. Thank you for ‘adopting’ me and welcoming me into your lovely family… I will forever be one of your ‘babies.’
Rest in peace, Ms. Ruby💜🙏🏽🕊️ by @mariasilvalv

We are Americans (Somos Americanos) by Thomas Rodriguez

It’s been more than a month since we lost Mr. Thomas Rodriguez. 🙏🏽🕊️

Tom was one of our most trusted and beloved historians when it came to Hispanics & Latinos living in Las Vegas and our state. What an incredible life he lived: TomRodriguezLV.com

I am so honored that I got the chance to interview Tom one last time for “Bienvenidos a Las Vegas”🫶🏽

This special interview & this program would not have been possible had it not been for a grant from @thirteenwnet , in partnership with @latinopublicbroadcasting, as part of a community engagement initiative in support of
#VocesPBS “American Historia: The Untold Story of Latinos”
Hosted & produced by @johnleguizamo

When a portion of “Bienvenidos a Las Vegas” aired during #Hispanic Heritage Month, Tom wrote me a nice email - “… Excellent. Good variety of people that you have interviewed. Anxious to see the final product! Our community needs more programs like this! 👍🏽♥️”

Querido Tom - I hope I make you proud.👍🏽♥️

“Bienvenidos a Las Vegas” airs Tuesday, April 23rd at 9pm on @vegaspbs Link in bio. #BienvenidosLV

Moments That Take My Breath Away: Couple Watching Sunrise 🌅🫶🏽

On my way to a hike w/Yuki🐶 - in my rear view mirror - I noticed the most gorgeous sunrise and just had to pull over to capture the moment.

That’s when I saw this lovely couple in their chairs, holding hands, watching the sunrise. 😍

And just when I thought the moment could not get more perfect… I heard their laughter. 🥰

My heart is happy.🌞

Moments That Take My Breath Away:
Witnessing Father John’s kindness & empathy.🙏🏽

Father John McShane celebrated his 83rd Birthday on Monday, July 20th, in 105+ degree weather, by doing what he has done every Monday for
26+ years… feeding those in need near Downtown Las Vegas.

This wonderful group started singing Happy Birthday even before our car came to a complete stop! 🥳

So much love, empathy and kindness in that one block radius.💕

More than feeding their bodies, he feeds their souls. I witnessed how so many just wanted someone to talk to, advice, a prayer… a simple hug. The free concert was an added bonus! 🎶🥰

A special THANK YOU to the kind volunteers who join Father John every Monday - it’s a small but mighty crew! 🫶🏽 Thank you for bringing cake & cupcakes so that we could all celebrate Father John on his special day!🎂

Father John receives some donations from parishes and donors, but on many occasions, he and his volunteers use their own money to buy food, water, sports drinks, bus passes, socks, T-shirts, gift cards, and other essentials.

I hope to be out there again on a Monday very soon. If you would like to join us or donate, please DM me.

P.S. Father John did get to enjoy his well-deserved birthday beer & even got a new @49ers hat! He loves his #49ers… reminds him of home.♥️💛 by @mariasilvalv
