Some people have asked why we released the Dolla (The Flame) single after the film rather than before.
The answer is simple: it was the audience’s response to the film that inspired us to record and release the song as a single.

The stunning work of Kristian Svalestad Olstad and Stein Austrud made this recording possible and brought new life to this beautiful composition by Isak Samuel Hætta. I would also like to acknowledge the great work of director Bjørn-Owe Holmberg, and Nina Erdahl for casting and styling.

We are grateful that this song can now continue its journey beyond the film and reach listeners in its own way.

The music video for Dolla follows the footsteps of a time and reality that shaped both John-Reier’s life and my own.

Watching Máret Áile Gaup Beaska portray me, and Øyvind Sørensen Rørtveit portray John-Reier, has been an emotional experience. Their performances feel deeply honest and true to the memories and emotions we wanted to share.

My hope is that people will remember John-Reier, not only for his struggles, his political convictions, and his rebellious spirit, but also for his kindness, his generosity, and his unwavering belief in a fairer world.

I have a deeply personal connection to the song “Dolla” by Isak Samuel Hætta. I sang “Dolla” (“The Flame”) at the funeral of John-Reier, who died far too soon. In my youth, he was my boyfriend and one of the people who most inspired me to recognize the value of my Sámi heritage. Today, I’m honored to share that the studio version of this beautiful song is now available on all digital platforms.

Etter en fantastisk konsert på OverOslo-festivalen i juni, er jeg på veien igjen. Jeg gleder meg til samle gjengen nok en gang, denne gangen for spillinger på Sørøyrocken, Markomeannu, Trevarefest og Rakettnatt-festivalen. I august blir det konsert sammen med Bugge Wesseltoft på Oslo Jazz, hvor vi deler scene med den legendariske amerikanske trommeslageren Brian Blade. Jeg håper å se deg på en av konsertene!

After such a stunning concert at the OverOslo Festival in June, I’m heading back on the road.
I can’t wait to reunite with my band for performances at the Sørøyrocken, Markomeannu, Trevarefest and Rakettnatt festivals.

In August, I’ll be a special guest of my partner and friend Bugge Wesseltoft at Oslo Jazz, where we’ll share the stage with the legendary American drummer Brian Blade.

I hope to see you at one of the shows!

Honoured to be part of this important exhibition, celebrating artists who have had the courage to raise their voices against injustice and inequality, using music and art to challenge society and inspire change.

May these stories encourage governments, institutions and those in positions of power, not only in the Nordic countries, but around the world, to listen, learn and act.
