Earlier in the month I spent a few days visiting my longtime friend's family (Kim and I were college roommates 21 years ago)! I hadn't seen her now five-year old daughter since she was a baby and this was my first time meeting her son! What a delightful bunch! We snuck in some quick family photos at a park and I had a wonderful time getting to know these two kiddos. Can't wait to visit again soon! by @mariellesolan

We’re extremely proud to announce that at tomorrow’s Sisterhood Shabbaton service we will be officially launching a year-long fundraising project. We’ll be creating a 2nd edition of ‘Sara’s Kitchen: The Sisterhood Cookbook’, to honor Sara Ciacci, the beating heart of Temple Sholom’s kitchen, as she approaches her 99th year of enriching our lives and community.

Within the pages of this cookbook are ninety cherished recipes that Sara has compiled over her years of selfless service. These recipes are not only delicious but are also rich with Sara’s experience, wisdom, and unstinting devotion to her community. Over the course of the year Sisterhood members will meet once a month at Temple Sholom to make all ninety of the recipes in the original cookbook. The food will be professionally photographed by Temple Sholom staff member Marielle Solan and the new edition of the cookbook will be available to buy in 2024.The funds raised from this cookbook will be dedicated to continuing Sara’s legacy of social action, support for the food bank, and chessed.

More information about this project will be sent out in the coming months. In the meantime, enjoy some teaser photos from the very first cooking sessions! by @mariellesolan

Just because your kids are now young adults doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t schedule family photoshoots anymore! Particularly if there is a very cute dog involved. Family memories last a lifetime. @meldrp - Your family is adorable! by @mariellesolan

What's making you happy these days? We've been enjoying a nice warm weather streak here in Vancouver. Summer is nearly here and we've been having backyard dinners/playdates with the fabulous family pictured here. About a year ago @reena_reeree beckoned Craig and Nell over to play with her daughters at a local playground and now Nell always looks forward to our weekly dates with her "best friend and her didi." Love you Reena and co! It really warms my heart to see Nell's friendships blossom at such a young age. We did an extended family photoshoot in the spring with Reena's brother's family too and the cousins loving on each other and getting each other to smile made my job so easy! It's making me really look forward to our family trip to the East Coast in June so Nell can get some quality time with her cousins too.

A beautiful mother-to-be from the fall! Since I live five minutes away from Trout Lake it's always my go-to park around Vancouver for portrait sessions. If you live in Vancouver, what's your favorite park and why? Any place I should consider busting out of my East Van bubble for outdoor portrait locations this spring or summer?

Vancouverites will understand the feeling of hesitant optimism that can accompany a few consecutive days of sunshine this time of year. Dare we say it...is spring in the air????? There's nothing like that feeling of rounding the corner from an interminably wet and snowy winter into springtime that fills you with a sense of happy hope on the horizon. Get into that Vitamin D folks!!

This cute family brought lots of springtime energy to their Queen E Park session last year and I'm looking forward to the blossom season coming up in a few short weeks!

A Few (Rejected) Wedding Photographer Reel Ideas by Me:
•POV: You're a smushed and sandy half-eaten Nature Valley granola bar lodged into a side pocket of my camera bag, forlornly forgotten from a beach wedding 3 weeks ago
•"This is your sign" to print out all your google maps directions to the wedding venue like it's circa 2002 peak MapQuest era since the wedding is in a delightfully rural location i.e. without a single itty bitty bar of cell service to guide you home bleary-eyed after a 12 hour wedding day
•POV: You're the single bead of sweat dripping off my forehead when I'm holding the diamond-studded wedding rings for detail shots because I've seen one too many viral videos of rings falling into lakes for some reason
•POV: you're my camera's instruction manual that I'm tempted to offer up as light reading to that one wedding guest who loves to dabble in photography and wants to know all the technical specs of my camera while I'm trying to capture 25 different family group photos in 20 minutes

Have I got a flair for viral marketing or what?! :)

Nell switched daycares 2 weeks ago and Craig and I made the decision to send her full-time to the new place. The main reason for switching to full-time is to give me a working weekday to focus on my photography business again! (Both photo sessions and pesky things like marketing. I honestly don't even know how to make a reel, so my brilliant ideas are for naught. Help!).

So this is a cosmic signal out to the universe that I'm more open for photo bookings. Get in touch! In particular with spring around the corner I'd be more than happy to schedule some blossom shoots!

In the meantime I'll be here thinking about more fake niche reels. :)

It's been a minute since I've posted anything! Yesterday I attended a styled shoot in North Van and it was so nice being in the wedding imagery mindset again after a bit of a hiatus. I loved especially that the bride and groom models here are a married couple! Spending a few hours taking photos of pretty people, flowers, details, and cake was certainly a nice break from the regularly scheduled programming of Peppa Pig, Ms Rachel and generally attending to the mercurial whims of my whirling dervish of a toddler. Thanks True to Hue for putting everything together!

Congratulations to my beautiful coworker Yael and her now-husband Nick on their wedding last week!

A few days before the wedding I went to their place to capture flat lay compositions of their details as my wedding gift to the couple. That meant that the day of the wedding I got to enjoy myself as a guest while the talented @anadouglasphotography captured the event as their official photographer. I haven’t been to a wedding since before the pandemic hit and it was such a joy to witness the couple being surrounded by family and friends on their special day. I also loved all the stylish little touches that made this such a fun and unique wedding, including the jaw dropping grazing table by @gather.vancouver 🍇🍓🍐🫐🧀🥖 and their Polaroid guest book.

Congrats to the happy couple! I hope you're enjoying your honeymoon to the fullest!
