POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hello everyone! 👋⚽️🌸

I’m Gretchen, and I’ve been playing soccer since I was three, and somehow at 35 I’m still out there every week playing alongside an incredible group of women of all ages.

As an autistic person, I’ve always loved that soccer gives me a different way to connect with people. Social interaction can be complicated, but put a ball at my feet and give us something to do together? Suddenly it feels a whole lot easier. Some of my favorite friendships and connections have happened through this game.

I’m also a huge women’s soccer fan, especially the NWSL and the Washington Spirit, and every once in a while I make it down to Audi Field for a match. Growing up, my favorite player was Kristine Lilly. I’ve always been a midfielder at heart too, much happier setting someone else up for a goal than being the one who scores it.

Marigold Mutt FC is basically what happens when I stop trying to keep all my special interests in separate boxes. Soccer, sewing, vintage materials, crafting, flowers, art—they can all live together here.

I’m having a lot of fun figuring out what that looks like, both on and off the field. 🌼⚽️ by @marigoldmuttfc

“Minute 51”

This artwork is a love letter to the fans that attend @washingtonspirit matches.

During these matches, the stadium becomes a gathering place where people of all backgrounds and identities come together for the love of women’s sports, flying flags with pride. 🏳️‍🌈🇵🇸

And at minute 51, the whole stadium chants: “FREE DC.” ( @freedcspirits ) I tried to capture how this moment feels at the stadium.

Thank you to the @spiritssquadron and all the other fans who make this space feel welcoming, safe, and full of community in a world that can feel far too bleak.

There’s hope here. ⚽️❤️ taken in Audi Field by @marigoldmuttfc

Two handmade tote bags using Andean fabric featuring soccer balls pieced together from floral fabrics. Lots of color here but loving it. ⚽️🌈🦄

Take these to the farmers market or sidelines for match day.

With all the vintage floral fabric, it feels like this quilt came straight out of the garden.

I never thought I would be mixing my love for soccer and crafting/quilting but here we are.

The inner square was sewn by me, and I drew outer border digitally in procreate for fun. More posts/reels of the inner quilt to come.

So glad the @washingtonspirit got the win today! Three more points. Celebrating by using the stickers admin dropped this past week!

Where are my people at?

I’ve really been loving exploring the intersection of my special interests in soccer and crafting lately.

In this video I am putting together the pieces of a soccer ball appliqué using heat n bond and my trusty iron.

This appliqué was added to an old hoodie of mine that had a few stains that needed to be covered up. Rather than the hoodie going to landfill, now it has a new life.
