Back in the Norwegian mountains. Just Sam and me this time. We missed our old boy, but he was never far away. ❤️

This summer we sailed all the way from the UK to Norway. After a short stop on charming Texel, we travelled slowly further up North. Seeing those mountains rise straight up from sea, is just incredible. What a beautiful place.#sailaway #norway🇳🇴 #rustleryachts #sailing by @marijkeottema

Missing a dog is hard. So often i wish i could have just one more cuddle, one more walk, catch a little of his smell again, feel his fur, just have him around me for one more day. 🤍

The beauty of November was its light, even on the very busy days.

Norway and Canada could be sisters, they are both wild, calm and beautiful. Although Canada is a bit bigger and wilder and has more bears also. And for now it’s still on my filmroll:-)

For someone from a country where the horizon is always flat, the Rocky Mountains are almost too much to take in. 🤍

Photography was one of my first passions. I remember stealing my dad’s camera without any clue on how to change the film (I ruined a lot of his film rolls) or find the right light or settings. Later with journalism, traveling and video making, images were always part of my life.

But maybe as many people can relate to, somewhere along the way I got a bit lazy. With a phone that fits in your pocket, a filter thats applied in a second and even AI that spits out whatever picture you want, I stopped carrying my heavy camera, stopped switching lenses and stopped thinking about which settings would translate the world around me best in one picture.

Recently I’ve got the best present ever and I’ve fallen back in love with pictures. It slows me down and makes me look closer and with more attention. It’s not just pressing a button but it is about creating an image. It feels like I have to relearn a lot of skills and learn new ones too, but with my dogs and the pretty surroundings around home I have some very patiënt subjects:-)

The last years when i take Kay hunting or when we go on longer hikes, i sometimes wondered if it wasn’t too much for him or if he still really enjoyed them. But the last week we went on a beautiful trip in the remote mountains of Nærøysund (Norway) and Kay showed me that this is what he loves most. Even though he’s not always as fast as he used to, and sometimes he takes the safer route (wisdom comes with age they say) he is still the best companion in the forest, the best hunting dog I can wish for, the cuddliest sleeper by my side and also the hungriest cabin-friend. We had a wonderful time, and who knows about next year. ❤️

We passed the line where the sun never sets. I’ve never been this far north and strangely, the higher we climbed the map the hotter the days became. We chased light, swam in golden silence and watched the world turn into pure visual poetry. But even though Sam and Kay are good company, I’m still missing the best one. #polarcircle #homeiswhereyouparkit #midnightsun #northbound #sunthatneversets #mercedessprintercampervan #mercedessprinter4x4 by @marijkeottema

Fires at midnight, hikes with an old and cripple dog, kayaking through mirrorlike fjords, daylight at 2AM. We cooked under a sun that didn’t want to say goodbye, hid in our van when we got chased by a big army of tiny noseeums.

Learning to sail ⛵️ and what better place to do that than in Cornwall? The rugged coastlines, postcard villages, and above all, the best company. Feeling salty, sun-kissed, and very lucky.
