**The Butterfly Lady 🦋**

This painting got so much attention during my exhibition in Mougins. People would stop, look at her, and sometimes stay for quite a while, one person stood in front of her for more than 20 minutes!

I loved hearing the different stories and feelings people connected to her. For some, the butterfly had a very personal meaning.🦋

I never know what a painting will mean to someone when I put it out into the world, and I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about painting.

She definitely seemed to have something to say. ❤️

No pressure and nothing to catch up on. Simply choose what sparks your curiosity. ❤️

A little piece of my journey 🤍

I didn’t go to art school, but I’ve always been creative.

I started with watercolor, then moved into oils, and everything changed when I discovered cold wax medium. That’s when I really began to find my own voice!

Texture is at the heart of everything I create. I love building layers, embracing imperfections, and letting the painting lead. Faces often appear in the process too, a little bit of pareidolia 😊 and that’s often where my portraits begin.

That same curiosity is also behind my upcoming membership, The Texture Lab ✨

If you’d like to explore more, the links to my online classes, YouTube channel, and the waitlist for The Texture Lab are in my bio.

I would love to connect with you, tell me you story! ❤️ by @marinatvb_art

Can you use delaminating inks over acrylic paint?

A Texture Lab student asked, so I took the question into my studio and gave it a try! 🎨

Watch my YouTube video to see how the inks behaved, and what surprised me during this little acrylic painting experiment!💖 by @marinatvb_art

Ruby ❤️

She found a new home during my exhibition in Mougins, which makes me very happy!

Here’s a little peek at the making of this textured portrait. I always love looking back at the process and seeing how a painting slowly comes together from all those layers, colours and marks ( and a bit of bronze leaf!🍁)

And now Ruby is off to her new home… 🥰 by @marinatvb_art

Meet Nora. ❤️
She slowly emerged from layers of deep reds and gold. I love how her face remains partly hidden, becoming part of the texture rather than simply sitting on top of it.

Nora is painted in oils and cold wax on paper, 30 × 40 cm. She is now at my exhibition at Le Lavoir de Mougins, if you’re nearby, come and meet her in person! I’ll be there every day from 11am to 7pm until 3 October.

My exhibition is now open in this magnificent place, the old Lavoir in Mougins, a beautiful historic washhouse. 🤍

I’ll be there every day from 11am to 7pm until October 2nd, so if you’re in the area, come and say hello and have a look around! 🎨 taken in Le Lavoir Mougins Village by @marinatvb_art

Installation day! 🎨

A little behind the scenes of setting up my exhibition at Le Lavoir de Mougins.

Fun little fact: this beautiful lavoir was built in 1894 and was once where the women of the village came to wash their clothes.

And today… it’s home to my paintings! 🥰

Another painting finished and ready for my exhibition at Le Lavoir de Mougins, from 18 September to 3 October. ❤️

Usually a title appears while I’m painting, but this one is keeping quiet! What would you call it? I’d love to hear your suggestions. 🌸

One of the questions I’m asked most is: why do you mix cold wax medium with your oil paint?

For me, it changes not only the paint, but the whole painting process.
It gives the paint more body, allowing me to spread, push and move it with palette knives and scrapers. I can build layer upon layer, then scrape back again to uncover colours and marks that were almost forgotten. It also gives the surface that beautifully soft, matte finish I love.

But perhaps the most important reason is the freedom it gives me. If something doesn’t work, I can remove it, cover it or completely change direction. It helps me let go of perfection and listen to what the painting is trying to become.

Every layer leaves behind a little piece of its history, and that unpredictable process is exactly why I became so hooked on cold wax. ❤️

Swipe through to see it in action.
Have you tried cold wax medium yet?

What do you love about it,or what would you like to know?

Cold wax and oils are also a big part of the material experiments inside The Texture Lab. Link in bio ✨
