THANK YOU for making ART FWD 2026: 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 such an incredible night! 💥

More than 360 of you joined us for our biggest ART FWD yet, and together we raised more than $365,000 — the most the museum has ever raised at a single event.

The night had a rhythm all its own: dancing to Give Me a Dollar (@givemeadollarmusic), making tabletop sculptures, adding to Sumi Ink Club’s collaborative mural (@sumiinkclub), exploring our Park Life Pop Up (@parklifesf), a surprise flash mob, and an unforgettable karaoke send-off with Hola Coach Chris (@holacoachchris). We loved seeing so many first-time visitors walking through our doors, too. Welcome to MarinMOCA!

At the center of it all was 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴, curated by San Rafael artist Tucker Nichols (@tuckernichols), bringing together artists exploring words, signs, letters, humor, and all the unexpected ways language shapes how we see and understand the world.

We’re grateful to Wealthspire (@wearewealthspire), Anthony Meier (@anthony_meier_), McKinsey & Company (@mckinseyco), Harbor Point Charitable Foundation (@hpcharitablefoundation), Lenny’s Newsletter (@lennyspodcast), and Reichardt Building Solutions (@_rbs_construction) for helping make this year’s celebration possible.

Thank you to Bungalow 44 (@bungalow44), BurmaTown (@burmatown), Perry’s (@perryssf), Jane The Bakery (@janethebakery), and Walds Craft Bakery (@waldscraft) for keeping everyone fed, and Eden Rift Vineyards (@eden.rift), Pond Farm Brewing Co. (@pondfarmbrewing), Sausalito Liquor Co. (@sausalitoliquor), Madre Mezcal (@madremezcal), and YerDrink (@yerdrink) for keeping the drinks flowing.

𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 is on view through December 20. Come back for a quieter look at the exhibition, and stay tuned for artist talks, tours, film screenings, hands-on activities, and more this fall.

We’re so grateful to have you in the MarinMOCA community. ❤️

𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗙𝗪𝗗 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗼

Take a closer look at 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗼, one of the artists featured in ART FWD: 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴, curated by Tucker Nichols and on view at MarinMOCA September 26–December 20, 2026.

The late Sacramento artist Nathan Cordero (1975–2018) brought together text, found materials, and the everyday objects of urban life. A self-taught artist, he worked with castoff scraps of wood, paper, household objects, and other fragments, transforming materials that might otherwise be overlooked into paintings, assemblages, and sculptural works.

Language was at the center of Cordero’s practice. He carved words and phrases into pieces of plywood and door skin, often removing spaces and punctuation so that text becomes something to decipher as much as something to read. His deliberately imperfect lettering moves between positive and negative space, while found objects and fragments of everyday life become carriers of memory, humor, and meaning.

Meet 𝗫𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗲, one of the artists featured in ART FWD: 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴, curated by Tucker Nichols and on view at MarinMOCA September 26–December 20, 2026.

Jane’s practice is grounded in the visualization of mathematical systems, developed through a highly structured and methodical approach to painting. Working primarily on square wood panels with oil, ink, and graphite, she constructs compositions using numerical logic, including prime numbers, palindromes, and complex sequences.

Her paintings are built through the precise placement of dots within gridded fields, creating compositions that echo the logic of algorithms and computational systems. While rooted in mathematical structure, Jane’s work explores the human impulse to find order and meaning in natural and abstract systems. The combination of rigorous structure and intense chromatic variation creates optically active surfaces that appear to vibrate and shift.

What happens when words become both language and image?

In ART FWD: 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴, artist and curator Tucker Nichols explores the ways words function as both concept and visual form. Bringing together artists who use language, symbols, signs, and mark-making in physical and unexpected ways, the exhibition considers our fundamental need to communicate, connect, and make meaning.

In this video, Tucker shares the thinking behind 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 and his interest in the many ways words can take shape.

ART FWD: 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 opens with MarinMOCA’s annual ART FWD celebration on 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟲, 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟱–𝟴:𝟯𝟬 𝗣𝗠. Join us for an evening of art, live music, dinner and drinks, hands-on art activities, karaoke, and more, with all proceeds supporting MarinMOCA’s education and outreach initiatives.

𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗙𝗪𝗗 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗝𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘆 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗰𝗵 @jeffreysincich

We’re excited to introduce 𝗝𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘆 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗰𝗵, one of the artists featured in ART FWD: 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴, curated by Tucker Nichols and on view at MarinMOCA September 26–December 20, 2026.

A San Francisco-based artist, Sincich’s practice grew out of his background in ceramics and seven years working as a sign painter. His love of hand-painted signage, typography, and architecture later merged with a fascination with handmade quilts, bringing together traditions of craft, lettering, and visual storytelling.

Sincich combines quilting with lettering and illustrations, incorporating neon signage, found wood, salvaged window grates, and building materials into his work. By bringing these sources together, he draws attention to the overlooked and underappreciated signs and everyday objects that help a city function day to day.
