Hi, I’m Kaylan. I’m the owner of Marin Treasures, my new creative venture.

It’s new. It’s evolving. But it also feels like something I’ve been accidentally working toward for a very long time.

I’m married to a custom woodworker @grant_mastercraft , have been an interiors enthusiast forever, a professional retail merchandiser and buyer and inherited my love of hunting for unique things from my grandmother. She had this beautiful house in the Oakland Hills filled with antiques and treasures, but never in a way that felt stuffy or overly precious. Everything was collected, layered and cool. I loved it.

I’m actually wearing her sunglasses here, sitting in a vintage McGuire chair I recently found, which feels pretty appropriate.

Marin Treasures is my place to share the pieces I find and love: vintage, antique, handcrafted, beautifully made things with some history to them. And especially to show how those pieces can live in a modern California home without making your house feel like an antique store.

Many of the pieces I share are available to buy, and I’m starting to explore private viewings, sourcing for designers and clients, and some fun pop-up collaborations around Marin.

And because I love a good soundtrack almost as much as I love a good treasure, there’s Treasures & Tracks- pairing my finds with music from their year, their era, or sometimes just a song that feels like it belongs with them. 🎶

So that’s where we are. I don’t totally know where this is going yet, which might actually be my favorite part.

If you see something you love, want to come see pieces in person, are sourcing for a client, or have a space that might be perfect for a Marin Treasures pop-up please DM me.

More to come. 🌟 by @marintreasures

✦ THE WEEKLY TREASURE HUNT ✦

Introducing a new weekly series! 💫

Most of my treasure hunting happens at estate sales, antique dealers, travel and at auctions. But I also spend a ridiculous amount of time scrolling Facebook Marketplace, so I figured I might as well put that time to good use for my fellow local treasure lovers!

Every week, I’ll round up (9)10 things that caught my eye but didn’t come home with me. Think of it as a little treasure-hunting shortcut, courtesy of Marin Treasures!

✨ See something you love? Head to my Stories for direct links to all 10 finds, in the same order as this Reel.

Which one would YOU bring home?

Follow along for a fresh treasure hunt every week! ✨

Listings are from independent sellers and availability may change.

Still riding the high from my very first French Market on Sunday! 🇫🇷 ✨

What an incredible day! From all the positive feedback and conversations about vintage treasures to seeing what caught people’s eyes and what found new homes, it was everything I hoped it would be and more.

One of my favorite parts was meeting fellow antique lovers, collectors, and vendors, including so many other first-timers! Everyone was so welcoming, encouraging, and generous with their advice. Such a fun community to be part of. Shout out to @peppyhandmade @saint.valiant and @versaire.co fellow vendors who gave me advice and inspired me!

A huge thank you to all my friends who stopped by to support me, those who helped load the car in the dark at 6 a.m. and get everything set up, and of course my son, who has officially appointed himself head of security AND my business partner. 💵

I learned so much, met so many wonderful people, and honestly just loved every minute of it. Days like this remind me why I started Marin Treasures in the first place.

So… I’m doing it again! See you at next month’s French Market! ⭐️

(SOLD) Here is one of the treasures I’ve sourced that has not made it out of my house. I picked up this little early 20th-century oak tea cabinet about a month ago and find it so charming and easy to live with that I’ve just kept it here.

I kept trying to decide what it wanted inside, stemware, little collected things, something weird? I finally realized: nothing. I love the beveled glass and etched starburst too much, especially when the afternoon light hits it.

I did give it two things I love. The turquoise Japanese glass fishing float belonged to my grandma, Go-Go, who collected them and had them throughout her home. And above it is one of my favorite photographs by my talented sister @laurenmassiephoto whose work I have framed all over my house. Humble brag- I have a very creative family ⭐️

This is a delicate old piece, both the wood and glass so I’m skipping the resale sites and shipping and offering it here first.

Came for Jack Johnson, stayed for the treasures. 🌞🌊✨

What started as a road trip to Santa Barbara for a concert turned into an absolute vintage treasure-hunting DREAM.

A little Santa Barbara, a little Central Coast, a whole lot of antique shops, thrift stores, estate sales, and spontaneous detours.

The highlight? Stumbling into an incredible estate sale at a historic Spanish-style home once owned by the family of a legendary Hollywood TV star. The architecture, the stories, the furniture (!!), the history. I was in absolute heaven. Spanish Revival homes and antique furniture have my whole heart.

But my favorite part of treasure hunting might actually be the people you meet along the way. Like these two fabulous Santa Barbara ladies who became my instant antique-world muses. One had just come from a dip in the ocean and was showing me her incredible collection of turquoise jewelry she’d gathered over the years. I could have listened to their stories all afternoon. 💙

There was a lot of heat, a much-needed jump in the Pacific, and plenty of treasure hunting through Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo, and Paso Robles.

I came home with a car full of finds, a few unbelievable stories, and a reminder that the best part of the hunt isn’t always what you bring home. It’s the places you stumble into and the people you meet along the way.

More of these kinds of days, please. 💗

One of my favorite things about treasure hunting is finding pieces that feel completely modern, bright and optimistic in the middle of an Estate Sale with mostly antiques. These are modern hand-carved birds by Mexican artist Davit Nava, an artist I’m very stoked to have discovered through the hunt.

Nava’s work focuses on the beauty of nature and our relationship with the environment. He creates with reused and recycled materials, including wood reclaimed after natural disasters, with the goal of making art with as little environmental impact as possible.

And then there are the colors. The pink, lime, natural wood and gold absolutely make me melt.

I’ve always loved Mexican art and culture, and discovering another contemporary Mexican artist whose work I connect with is one more reason (not that I needed one) to get myself to Mexico City ASAP.

I loved these two immediately. They even rotate on their bases, so you can change the direction they face. I bought them separately, but once I got them home, they clearly belonged together.

I think this is also why I love collecting for a home. Shelves don’t need to be “filled.” They can be built slowly with things that mean something: something inherited, something found while traveling, a book you actually love, or a piece of art that stopped you in your tracks.

These fit perfectly into my bright, beachy house, but more importantly, they have a story, an artist behind them and an idea behind why they were made.

The best homes aren’t filled. They’re collected.

And if these colors do something to you too, go check out Davit Nava on his website or Instagram and more of his work. #mexicocityart by @marintreasures

Some treasures come with a story.

I spotted these hand-carved oak chairs in a photo advertising a garage sale in Mill Valley. The sale was being held by neighbors helping a longtime resident move from the home she’d lived in since the 1960s.

After I drove up a very windy and narrow Mill Valley hill, I spoke with the old woman who was moving to NYC and she shared that her late husband’s great-grandfather had hand-carved these chairs. Her husband was a carpenter and spent his life building beautiful mid-century furniture for their home. You could feel the pride she had in the craftsmanship that surrounded her.

Before I left, I told her these chairs were going to someone who truly appreciated the work behind them. As the wife of a woodworker (@grant_mastercraft ), I know the time, patience, and skill it takes to create something built to last.

Now these chairs begin their next chapter.

One of my favorite parts of treasure hunting isn’t just finding beautiful pieces, it’s preserving the stories that come with them. And maybe reminding people that a hand-carved chair can feel just as at home in a modern California house as it did generations ago.

Every piece I share is part of my collection (at least for a little while). If something speaks to you, send me a message. Social media marketing by @marintreasures

The Perfect basket. The best and largest basket I’ve ever seen. I’m going to start saying less bc I have so much good product to post it’s taking me too long to tell you a long ass story about everything and that’s the mood I’m in today. Poppy the rat terrier for size and me under the basket for more size comparison. by @marintreasures
