Did you catch me on tv? 🧚🏽‍♀️📺

Back in November I was incredibly lucky to book this campaign and to be flown out to South Africa for a week.
The cast and crew were brilliant (I want to work in SA again, please and thank you!) and best believe we made the most of our time there.

Here’s to my face being on your screens more and more until you get sick of it 🥂

This is a very special one. ⤵️

A year ago, for the first time in my life, I finally found myself on a period piece set. And not just any period piece : the first HBO tv series to be made in France.
For little dancer me who had been told that she could never be Odette/Odile in Swan Lake because she was black, for little actress me who had been denied auditions because “you guys didn’t exist in France well until the late 80’s”, this was huge.
I have no ego when it comes to this career, I don’t care what my status is on a set, I just want to be in those spaces and learn from people who are great at what they do. So I did.
I learned so much about set design, costuming, hairstyling and makeup techniques... about lighting, stage fighting, intimacy coordination… and most of all, I had the time of my life and met some very, very special people (they’ll know who they are).
So all of this just to say : it’s so important to keep fighting to exist in spaces you were told you didn’t belong in. It’s so necessary for us, actors of colour, script writers of colour, to course correct and remind audiences that we DID exist in this world, and that some of our ancestors did evolve in white dominated spaces centuries ago.

Huge thanks to Sophie Thurin & Ozal Emier for their sharp eye, their open mindedness and for giving me this opportunity. 🙏🏽

Marseille, I can’t believe I’m experiencing an ennemies-to-lovers story with a city.
Ten years in the making and I believe I’m only starting to apprehend you. With each visit, a little bit of my heart stays with you.
You teach me to be present, to be grateful yet cautious. You teach me that I can be my very own self without hiding, without trying to manage the chaos or the contradictions.
And you attract people who, like me, have a fiery personality that hides a kind of melancholy. Poets.
People who know there’s no greater joy than eating watermelon by the sea and playing around in the salty water whilst enjoying a sunset. No greater joy than to laugh, and to dance, and to share a meal with your friends. No greater joy than to put the world to rights, to complete a crossword puzzle in under 10 minutes, to pretend we’re philosophes and then crack an absurd joke to balance it all out.
Marseille, you break, you push, you question and then you heal. You’re tough love. You have to be earned. If you were a person, you’d be one of my favourites, for sure. 🩵 taken in Marseille, France by @marioncanneval

T’was the end of Leo season and summer in the city. T’was my birthday. T’was partying a lot and working even more. T’was the embodiment of “going with the flow” and it led to feeling more alive and present than ever.
Feeling extremely grateful for the people in my life, feeling blessed to do what I love, feeling lucky to eat good food and to have a roof over my head and to get to laugh and dance and play and love freely. Thinking of those who don’t and holding them very close to my heart. 🤍 by @marioncanneval

Une semaine et un jour de « Petites Mains » de @nessimchikhaouii au cinéma. ✨
Mon premier rôle parlé sur le grand écran, et très fière de faire partie de cette joyeuse bande pour raconter une histoire importante.
