YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO PREGAME BEFORE THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME.

It’s about learning to taste differently, think differently, and experience food differently.

Because when your tastebuds change, your choices can change too.

She lost 191 pounds. Got off 25 prescriptions. Rebuilt her entire life from the inside out. And she did it without surgery, without shortcuts, and without losing herself in the process.

This is Mari Ayala. Tampa’s Reinvention Strategist. And this Built Different conversation is one of the most powerful ones we have had on this show.

Swipe through this carousel and tell me which slide stops you. Because one of them is going to land differently than the rest.

We go deep on how Mari lost 191 pounds through a completely holistic approach. What it meant to be misdiagnosed for 23 years and what that journey taught her about fighting for yourself when the system gets it wrong. The mindset shift that changed everything, when she stopped chasing a number and started chasing a life. The wellness business she built so others do not have to start from scratch. And the nonprofit work she is doing right now in the Tampa Bay community to make sure transformation is accessible to everyone.

This is not a weight loss story. This is a story about what happens when one person decides to tell the truth about their body, their health, and their worth and refuses to stop until the life they deserve catches up.

Episode 108 of Mindset, Health, Empowerment: The Unfiltered Trainer is live now. Link in bio to listen. And go show Mari some love, follow her at @mariwiththe411 and share this with someone who needs to hear that real change is possible without the shortcuts.

Subscribe so you never miss a Built Different conversation. New episodes every month and new podcast episodes every Tuesday.

I’ve literally been in my own world, focusing on tapping out physically and emotionally. Sometimes, you’d be surprised what stillness reveals when you finally stop forcing, chasing, and carrying everything. The clarity you gain in silence can show you what’s truly in your best interest. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for yourself is step back and let God reveal what you couldn’t see while you were busy doing everything else.

As I prepare for my third walking 5K of the year In Tampa, I’ve been thinking about something that has become just as important to me as the physical accomplishment: celebrating myself.

Walking was and is very difficult for me. A 5K is very painful for me. I still show up. It takes me three days to recover. I’m still going. I’m still making it happen.

Every day. Sometimes several times a day.

Because I’ve learned that if I only celebrate myself when I reach the big goal, I’ll miss all the little victories that got me there.

I’m walking this 5K. Yes, walking. And I’m proud of that.

I don’t need to run it for it to count. I don’t need to be the fastest person on the course for it to matter. I don’t need my accomplishment to look like someone else’s accomplishment for it to be worthy of celebration.

I showed up. I put one foot in front of the other. I kept going. That counts.

And honestly, that mindset applies to so much more than a 5K.

Celebrate getting out of bed when life feels heavy.
Celebrate setting the boundary.
Celebrate choosing rest.
Celebrate making the appointment.
Celebrate going back to the gym.
Celebrate starting over.
Celebrate choosing yourself.
Celebrate the days nobody else sees.

We spend so much time waiting for the BIG moment that we forget our lives are built in the small ones.

So while I’m preparing for my third 5K this year, I’m also practicing something every day:

I refuse to make myself wait until the finish line to celebrate the person who had the courage to start.

Walk it. Run it. Crawl it. Take your time.

Just keep HUSTLING 🔥🔥🔥🔥

An accomplishment is still an accomplishment and every step deserves to be celebrated. taken in Tampa, Florida by @mariwiththe411

If you love me, don’t coddle me.

Call out my bullshit. Dismantle my excuses. Demand more from me. Challenge me. Make me mad. Tell me the truth I don’t want to hear.

I love my friends because they’re not mushy or squishy. They don’t tell me what I want to hear to keep me comfortable. They love me enough to hold me accountable.

People always say, “I wish people would love me just the way I am.”

But what about the people who DO love you just the way you are and because they refuse to grow themselves, they put a ceiling on how far you’re allowed to go?

Sometimes misery loves company.

I literally restructured my table. I changed who gets a seat, who gets access, and who gets to speak into my life.

Withholding a blessing is a sin.

If you love me, don’t help me stay where I am.

Push me higher. Expect more. Challenge me harder.

And never let comfort become my ceiling. 🔥

Good morning, my loves. Now go be accountable for the life you say you want. by @mariwiththe411

I’ve been getting messages telling me that my pictures are circulating through other organizations, businesses, and networking events, and I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has reached out to check on me and make sure I’m resting.

I promise you, I am TRYING 😂

But apparently, even when I’m moving intentionally, the presence is still being felt in rooms I haven’t even walked into yet!

I’m becoming MORE visible, and I’m very intentional about every room I enter, every person I connect with, every organization I align myself with, and every opportunity I choose to pursue.

I’m not interested in simply being seen. I’m interested in building meaningful relationships, creating impact, serving my community, and positioning myself where my presence has purpose.

I’m looking forward to the rest of this year and embracing new rooms, new connections, new collaborations, and new opportunities that align with the vision God has placed on my life.

I’m not chasing visibility. I’m focused on purpose, and visibility is becoming a byproduct of the work.

So, to everyone who has seen my pictures circulating, thought of me, mentioned my name, or reached out to check on me, THANK YOU. I appreciate you more than you know.

I’m ACTIVELY resting. I’m growing. I’m working. I’m being intentional.

And I’m walking into this next season with faith, discernment, and a whole lot of gratitude.

Sometimes, your name enters rooms before you do. Make sure the work behind your name speaks for itself. taken in Tampa, Florida by @mariwiththe411

People say, “Check on your strong friends.”

But do you actually KNOW how to check on your strong friends?

Because it’s not the regular check-in.

Do you know their love language?

Do you know what they need when they’re overwhelmed?

Do you know whether they need conversation or quiet?

A hug or personal space?

Advice or someone who can just sit beside them without expecting them to explain a damn thing?

Do you know what sensory overload looks like for them?

Because sometimes, the person who holds everything together for everyone else is fighting battles they don’t have the energy to put into words.

Checking on your strong friends means learning how to care for them, not just asking if they’re okay.

So let me ask you something:

What’s your strong friend’s love language? And
do you actually know how to speak it?

What is mine?!?!!? by @mariwiththe411

REFLECTION:

What got you in the room won’t keep you in the room.

It’s realizing that the version of you who fought so hard to get there may not be the version of you who is meant to stay there.

I’ve been in a season of being intentional and slowing down.

Your credentials got you the opportunity.
Your experience earned you credibility.
Your talent got you noticed.
Your relationships opened doors.

But eventually, the room changes.

The expectations change.
The challenges change.
The people around the table change.
And sometimes, you have to change too.

That’s where reinvention comes in.

Reinvention isn’t pretending your past didn’t happen.

It’s not abandoning everything you’ve learned.

It’s taking everything you’ve survived, accomplished, discovered, and becoming more intentional about who you’re becoming next.

There are seasons where you have to stop introducing yourself by who you used to be.

You have to release the identity that was built around your last accomplishment.

You have to stop relying on the skills that made you successful yesterday and develop the ones that will make you valuable tomorrow.

You have to be willing to say:

What worked before will not be enough to sustain. We have to be coachable and learn to take corrective criticism to be able to push to the next level .

That can be uncomfortable.

Because there’s security in familiarity.

There’s validation in being known for what you’ve always been good at.

And there’s a certain comfort in letting your past success define you.

But growth often requires you to become a beginner again.

To ask different questions.

To learn new things.

To challenge old beliefs.

To change your environment.

To redefine success.

To let go of the version of yourself that people have become comfortable with.

Useful but not seen.

Real reinvention requires courage because people may recognize your history before they recognize your future.

They may remember the old you.

Change anyway. taken in Tampa, Florida by @mariwiththe411

Your comfort zone isn’t protecting you. It’s exposing how little you’re willing to learn.

You’re only brave when you’re surrounded by what you already know. You call it peace, but sometimes it’s avoidance. You call it stability, but sometimes it’s fear with better branding.

You don’t want the unfamiliar because the unfamiliar requires you to admit you don’t have all the answers.

It requires you to be the beginner again.

To walk into rooms where nobody knows your name.
To experience cultures you weren’t raised around.
To hear opinions that challenge what you believe.
To meet people who don’t look, think, speak, or live like you.
To try something you might be terrible at before you become good at it.

That’s where growth lives.

Because you cannot keep demanding a bigger life while refusing to leave the environment that keeps you the same.

And let’s be honest: knowing how to survive inside your comfort zone is not the same as knowing how to live outside of it.

Real courage isn’t feeling safe everywhere you go.

It’s being willing to feel uncomfortable long enough to learn something.

So stop calling your limitations “boundaries” when they’re really fear.

Stop calling familiarity “freedom.”

You built a wall around everything you already understand, painted it beautifully, decorated the inside, and convinced yourself you were free.

But a prettier cage is still a cage.

And the world is too damn big to spend your life only visiting places where you already know how to be. taken in Tampa, Florida by @mariwiththe411
