The story of rampant counterfeit auto parts on #ebay - shame on them for allowing this to happen. The pump was junk right out of the box - soft threads stripped out immediately. What kind of fuel pumps are you #porsche930 owners replacing your pumps with? I’m looking at @aemelectronics who have a similar pump with a higher flow rate and their quality looks to be higher than average.

I admit I fell for it, I checked all the labels on the eBay pump and it seemed legitimate, but common sense tells us that there is no way Bosch can make a pump in Germany and sell it for $42 in this day and age, in fact the replacement genuine pumps from Bosch are all made in Czech Republic. Good thing is this pump failed out of the box and not on my expensive turbo engine while under boost. If you loose fuel flow then your engine is nearing a disastrous situation. None of us want to spend more than necessary but beware the con artists and eBay who take advantage of that frame of mind.

For Sale 1968 Porsche 912 coupe - original rust free California black plate car, original paint, original interior, 86,000 original miles, engine/transmission fully rebuilt 4 years ago by my shop - comprehensive full rebuild with big bore 1720cc and improved camshaft and properly jetted rebuilt original Solex carburetors.

Originally sold to a doctor out of downtown San Francisco when new. It came to me in good but slightly tired condition so I did all the engine/trans work - new everything on the engine including clutch. The interior I replaced the dash with an original not cracked dash I was very lucky to source through my contacts, rebuilt the padding on the seat and added the deluxe Slumberoll headrests, new headliner, Wood Steering Wheel! Gauges restored by Palo Alto Speedo.

Original x5 dated matched wheels restored with new Vredestein 185 tires installed.

The exterior paint is all original, it has a few spots of patina but honestly don’t we all look a little worn after all the years, I polished the paint and brought it back to a very acceptable gloss appearance. Original paint means no accidents! Replaced the USA only side markers with good original used, the turn signals are all original in excellent shape. Most all rubber replaced. Most cars these days are full of reproduction parts that might look shiny but they don’t fit well and will not last like all the original German parts on this car, these cars are also not built by someone with 30+ years of Porsche 912 experience. I can’t build cars like this anymore unfortunately unless the price was well over $150k…. This one was done just before the pandemic so the costs were much lower. The current owner is trading it in on another car so don’t snooze, this is a good one to buy that will not give you any trouble. He had driven regularly for 4 years and has had no problems. Located in San Diego.

The art to a proper restoration is blending the old original parts where it counts with the new restoration parts. Lots of new parts we get today are not near as good as the original parts so a large stock of old parts should never be under appreciated. Someone changed the colors of this car to White over Black for some reason - I am putting it back to how it was - Special Order “to sample” color.

It’s an amazing car with an incredible story - built by Porsche racing department, powered by a 3.0L RSR engine slightly de tuned for pump gas and low end power needed for rally driving. Commissioned by a privateer that threw as much money as he had at it so he could race against the bigger factory teams. Built at the very end of an era, by this time track racing was no longer affordable for the small private team but rally racing was and Porsche built just this one of these then said never again - they went on to create 21 of the 911SC/RS cars which share most all the parts and attributes of this very car.

Since it’s a one off factory built race car I’m open to your offer. I want to sell it. What would you pay for this car? Feel free to DM me an offer.

Larry Chen just visited the shop I am working with in Thailand, excerpt from his latest YouTube video. This is the 65 911 project I am in charge of - engine finished - you can see the build in my feed, next step is paint. So many details on these old cars to make right. This type of restoration is 10 times more difficult than building a restomod or customizing a car. I feel this level of work is so much more important than modernizing a car with more power, this is bringing the car back to its original form. We are preserving history.

In my quest to learn about all the genuine Porsche sport bucket seats I present to you the lightweight ultra supportive Recaro 935 “Lollipop” seats. Weighing in at 19lbs each with sliders, a fixed headrest and very supportive shoulder bolsters it is quite interesting how the fiberglass buckets evolved from the 911R seats to this. They are tight! As a racing seat should be, so maybe not the best seat for long drives unless an aftermarket was made that is slightly wider. No round boys will fit in these! They accommodate 5 point harnesses which really evolved the safety aspect - probably needed in a 600+hp twin turbo car.

In 1978-79 Bruno Kreibich asked Porsche to build him a rally car. Gerd Schmid the director of the customer racing department oversaw the project in Werk 1. The car was built alongside factory built 935s and they used a 1972 911T chassis so Bruno could legally race it on public roads - a 1979 model year factory race car would not have been street legal. The project was deemed so involved and expensive Gerd said they would never do it again for a single customer. After this car other cars such as the SCRS and Dakar rally cars were built, most likely using some of the development this car pioneered.
