What a cool surprise! My family gave me this really nice ‘53 Robinson for my birthday. They found this sweet 1930’s vintage catcher’s mitt for me as well. My grandfather played catcher in high school in the 30’s and I always regretted not asking him for his mitt that hung in his garage for years before he passed. I never knew what happened to it but my dad knew how much I loved it. Although that actual mitt may be gone forever, I’ll instantly remember all the great times I shared with my grandpa when I see this one. My quest to collect all of Jackie’s cards from his playing days continues. I think the ‘53 is my favorite though. The artist, Gerry Dvorak, did an amazing job creating oil paintings of each player in the ‘53 set. I love Robinson’s smile in this painting along with his vibrant blue Brooklyn hat. Also, a portion of the Brooklyn Bridge in the background makes this card especially appealing. #1953topps #brooklynbridge #brooklyndodgers #baseballcards #cardcollection #42 #jackierobinson #breakingbarriers #sgc #toppsbaseball #pioneer #whodoyoucollect #forthehobby #vintage by @markeicards

I’ve been searching for a 1953 Satchel Paige for a couple years and was so happy to find one I really liked at the @flippincardshow yesterday. I often look for “well centered” cards but was amazed by the surface and four distinct corners on this one. Tough to find that combination on Satchel’s 53. Also in 1953, Fats Domino recorded and released Goin’ to the River. He was a pioneer for rock and roll just as Satchel was for baseball. Fits beautifully in a gold @slabmags #vintagebaseballcards #1953topps #psa #satchelpaige #stlouisbrowns #baseballcards #sportscards #cardcollector #pioneer #fatsdomino #forthehobby #cardshows #whodoyoucollect #allstar #halloffame #americanhistory by @markeicards

On the occasion of Roberto Clemente Day, I wanted to share one of my favorite cards of him. 1971 was a special year for Roberto Clemente, just a year before he would leave us in that tragic plane crash while delivering humanitarian aid to those who survived a devastating earthquake in Nicaragua. “In October of 1971, Roberto Clemente came as close to carrying his team to a world championship as any one player has ever done. In a World Series matchup that heavily favored the powerhouse Baltimore Orioles, Clemente lifted the underdog Pittsburgh Pirates to one of the most remarkable upsets in Fall Classic history. Hitting the ball with a relentless ferocity, running the bases like a man 10 years younger than his listed age of 37, and fielding his position with breathtaking flawlessness, Clemente galvanized the Pirates, almost willing them to a World Series title that most had considered unlikely, if not impossible.“ “Roberto Clemente played the game of baseball with great passion. That passion could only be matched by his unrelenting commitment to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate and those in need. People saw Roberto as a great ballplayer and humanitarian. He was also a great father, husband, teammate and friend.” - Manny Sanguillen #robertoclemente #robertoclementeday #21forever #pittsburghpirates by @markeicards

Here is a quick look at some of the handmade packaging created for our custom art cards. We truly hope you enjoy the experience of unboxing one of these art cards just as much as the card itself! #thoughtfullypackaged Each card is a team effort, so while I work on the card illustration, my wife Mary is busy working hard hand-making the packaging that holds your card safely during shipping! It was both designed and invented by her, and it’s a beautiful presentation for your one of a kind art piece! mikeolsonart.com  Series: 4 Card #: 6 Design Inspiration: 1915 Cracker Jack Size: 2.5 in x 3.5 in by @markeicards

“I lost money, coaching jobs, a shot at the Hall of Fame. But when you weigh that against all the things that are really and truly important, things that are deep inside you, then I think I’ve succeeded.” Thank you Curt Flood. Happy Labor Day. by @markeicards
