POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Starting to share my ideas on social feels sooooo vulnerable. I often feel lost or that I’m making a fool of myself. I was writing about it this morning and reflecting on the things that really matter in this process- which are how I feel about me for what I share, that I’m doing it in the first place, and that I keep going… because everything that doesn’t reach as many people as I’d hoped, is leaving me clues about what will.

Yesterday I reposted a video about a big, bold decision Matthew McConaughey made. That story is super inspiring, but what I also want to note is that the life-long process of alignment often looks and feels awkward, scary, and confusing until we get to the other side of something we’re facing. Even for a legend who represents profound confidence like McConaughey, I guarantee his journey to get to where he wanted to go involved many doubts, small steps, and profoundly vulnerable, uncomfortable, and scary moments.

On the journey of finding your way to being more true and moving towards your version of your dream, this is a friendly reminder (to us both) that it’s okay to make a mess and not get it right. I believe- and have seen time and again- that what really matters is that we’re going for it and learning along the way ❤️

Would you make a call like this?

So much respect for the courage and integrity it took to make this decision and stick to it.

When it comes to many of the artists we revere like Dolly Parton, Dave Chappelle, Bruce Springsteen, & Will Ferrell, you’ll find they have made similar calls... saying no to very tempting offers when everyone else would have said yes.

But life doesn’t just respond to this level of alignment in Hollywood… I have seen so many others thrive when they said no to a shiny object that didn’t feel right in their gut. The kind of self-respect influences life in powerful ways.

If you have a hard choice in front of you and you’re not sure what to do, I hope this helps.

What was your business created to fulfill?

When you’re running a company- big or small- it’s easy to lose touch with that. Things get busy and lots of demands get placed on you. And with so much going on, finding your way tends to be far simpler than you’d probably expect- re-focus on the purpose. I’ve seen clouds part for so many (myself included) when that comes into focus.

And btw, this doesn’t just work for entrepreneurs. If you are employed or a one person show, asking yourself what your purpose is above making money… why you do what you do and why it’s important, can bring answers in a flash.

Self love! What a beautiful thing. Maybe this post will inspire you to create more of it in your life. If that’s something you want, I hope it does. Also I want to add: a big way to greater self love and respect is saying the hard thing in a skillful way. It’s wild what an enormous impact that can have. I love and believe in you.

Digging deeper at the misaligned thing ain’t gonna take you anywhere but down. Drop that shovel! Yes I know this is easier said than done- after all, we may have been clinging to the job or relationship for dear life. It can feel scary to think about letting go… little by little… one step at a time. And while you can never know for sure what’s on the other side of the thing you’ve been trying to outwork, the things that tend to show up when you respect the hell out of your- often hard- decisions, tend to be really, reallly good. I know it’s not easy, and it’s totally worth it.

Rooting for you,

It’s a beautiful feeling when things like up in a way you couldn’t have planned. Maybe it’s always just a coincidence, but the more we live in sync with ourselves, the more things of this nature occur. Does this mean we are perfectly aligned with no hard chapters ahead or that things don’t get crunchy AF? Of course not! We are frigging human with a lifetime of learning to do and shit is gonna happen. But net-net this feeling is becoming more and more of the dominant tone of our lives, and it feels incredible. Which is consequently the whole reason I’m starting to shout alignment from the rooftops. It would make us very happy to hear you’re experiencing this too, or to share a few tips that help you get unstuck and experience more of it for yourself ❤️ by @markkrassner

Behind many of the greats you’ll find stories of alignment hiding in plain site. Big decisions many would say are crazy that wound up defining many illustrious careers. It’s one of my favorite parts about the way alignment works… the play that seems nuts by conventional standards is really the master chess move that unlocks the whole game.

@davechappelle is definitely one such person. Can you imagine the guts it took to leave Chappelle’s Show behind while it was at the top??! More important than Chappelle rising to meteoric success, he was someone that respected the person who stared back at him when he looked in the mirror. And while the $60 million from Netflix probably tasted pretty sweet, feeling proud of who you are and the way you walk in the world is priceless.

It blows my mind how much changing a single question has shifted the entire trajectory of my life and the lives of so many around me. When I optimize for self respect above the most strategic play, everything has a beautifully ironic way of clicking into place.

That doesn’t mean not to be smart and strategic, I’m simply saying it’s a bad call to do it in a way that makes you a smaller version of yourself (which if you’re not in touch with yourself, it often can).

And when I move in the direction of self respect, an enormous part of the equation is doing it as skillfully as I can. How can I take that path with the most kindness, compassion, and consideration? Thats a work in progress for yours truly, as are making those aligned decisions faster and with more confidence. It’s gotten so much easier with the reps but decisions that favor self respect when everything says the strategic decision is the play have yet to stop being a beautiful challenge.

There’s something very satisfying about movie scenes where someone says “screw it” and dramatically ends a job or relationship that isn’t working. But what Hollywood doesn’t often show is the backlash a lot of people experience after decisions of that nature.

I remember meeting someone who got out of a big motivational workshop and abruptly quit his high paid tech job to pursue a business he wanted to start. This person was under a massive amount of pressure financially, and subsequently, his marriage was also struggling hard as a result. While it may have been the most authentic thing for this person to ultimately quit the job, the way they did it seemed to be the very thing undermining their dream because of how disregulated and over-stressed they were.

I’ve also seen this in relationships that dont end consciously. Even though it’s over, people can carry so much unresolved, stuck energy that is a burden in and of itself, but also interferes with their pursuit of love or their next relationship.

Yes, sometimes we do just have to say, “fuck it” and blow the damn thing up. But most of the time, there is a much more skillful, friendly, and ultimately fruitful path to get to where we want to go.

PS if you’re reading this and thinking of a time you feel you could have ended something better and it still weighs on you, it’s not too late. Reach out to an old boss or colleague or friend or lover and acknowledge where you feel you could have done better. You may be shocked at how liberating a conversation like that can be. by @markkrassner

The more we respect ourselves for the way we show up to life, the softer our inner critic tends to become. So if you find yourself fighting some invisible trouble maker in your head, stop and think of something you can do that you’d be proud of. Maybe it’s a conversation you’ve been putting off, or a message you’ve wanted to share, or even just cleaning up your pad or paying an outstanding bill… it doesn’t matter where you start. Doing anything that makes you respect yourself more can make your mind a much friendlier place to exist. Ive been there many times myself and share with humility and love! by @markkrassner

How often do we do things because they seem smart, or strategic, or because we don’t want to upset someone else- even when deep down inside we lose even the teeniest bit of self respect? Sooo many of us are doing this regularly in our relationships, in our career and business decisions, with our health, etc. And while some of these choices may seem small or insignificant, if you add them up, they become very destructive to our lives and sense of self (not to mention the bigger choices where the stakes get way higher).

What I find to be so beautiful is that if you reverse the idea and make choices that make you feel good about you… life has a way of getting more and more beautiful, connected, and rich. I know it probably sounds overly simplistic, but I have yet to find a more effective approach to a life that will take your breath away.
