20 years ago, I was just starting out in my photography journey. I met @sheilamwanyigha (whose stage name was Nikki) at a classic car show in Nairobi. At the time, I did not know who she was, but she was looking dazzling and I nervously asked if I could take a picture of her. She graciously agreed. Not long after, she got in touch after I had delivered her 5x7 prints and asked me if I would like take photos at an upcoming music video shoot. I was a complete ball of nerves because by then I had discovered that she was one of the biggest stars in Kenyan music at the time. Of course I said yes but my heart was thumping like a bass drum lol! My hands sweat when I'm nervous, so trust me when I tell you they were drenched when I got to the shoot 😅.

At the time, I had just one camera, my trusty old @canonusa EOS 500N also known as the Rebel G model here in the US. I was fascinated by all the setup and the set for the video. They kept it very simple with one dark background and one light background. I had a @sekonicglobal 358 light meter, because I was not about to mess up my exposure on this gig!

I ended up getting some of my favorite pictures ever, during that shoot. The one of her sitting on a Marshall amp was published full page in a newspaper and remains one of my all-time favorite images.

Sometimes we never know where our journey will take us. 20 years on, and I am still in love with the art and the craft of photography. by @markonestudiosllc

I try to ouah myself to go out of my comfort zone whenever I can. I'm an introvert, but decided to join this meetup organized by the fabulous @sunshine.seabrook.modeling and we ended up creating some magic! 🥰 by @markonestudiosllc
