Studio in Limassol — 2 spaces available ↓
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hey guys! I’ve recently opened my new design studio in Limassol’s old town.

It’s where I’ll be running my own design practice, and I thought it would be nice to open up the space to other independent creatives working on their own projects and ideas.

A relaxed place to work on your own projects, experiment with new ideas and enjoy being around people from different creative backgrounds.

There are currently two spots available for anyone interested in joining us.

If this sounds like your kind of space, feel free to get in touch and come by for a coffee.

Recognised as the emerging young designer of the year in the BIG SEE Perspectives Award 2025 Product Design (South-East Europe).
A meaningful step forward as my practice continues to grow through experimentation, new materials, new technologies, and thoughtful design.

Thank you to @bigsee.makesense and to @con_economides_design_studio for nominating me and for believing in my work and vision, and to everyone who has supported me so far.

Hydra has been recognised as a National Runner-Up for the James Dyson Award 2025.

This recognition affirms the urgency and ethos behind our technology. Hydra is a machine for growing change, an infrastructure for the next generation of biomaterials.

Developed at the Royal College of Art, Hydra explores how microbial intelligence and design thinking can merge to shape new ways of collaborating with living systems and unlock vast applications across materials, products, and futures. Patent-protected and continuously evolving, Hydra lays the foundation for new industries built on cultivation rather than extraction.

Huge thanks to my team, and the RCA for their invaluable support. This is just the beginning. More is coming from Hydra.

Imagine growing materials instead of manufacturing them.

As sustainability becomes a global priority, industries are seeking new ways to develop high-performance materials that use fewer resources, generate less waste, and offer greater adaptability.

In response, Markos Georgiou, a designer from the Royal College of Art, created Hydra Bioreactor, a modular system that grows 3D bacterial materials. Overcoming the limits of traditional flat forms such as bioleather and cellulose, it produces elastic, rigid, or waterproof materials 5–7 times faster than before. By converting food waste into valuable biomaterials, Hydra Bioreactor offers a scalable and sustainable solution with applications in healthcare, fashion, and aerospace, turning living materials from lab research into practical, eco-friendly innovations.

💡 USD 900 million
That’s where the bacterial cellulose market is heading by 2033,
almost 3× bigger than today.

Why the rise?
 🌱 Safer, low-carbon alternatives
 📜 Compliance & brand pressure
 ⚙️ Smarter fermentation, lower costs
🧵 Expanding use: packaging, textiles, medical, electronics
BC isn’t a lab curiosity anymore.
It’s becoming an industrial material — measured by certifications, lead times, and audit readiness.

At Tocco, we map suppliers + compliance pathways so teams can act with speed and trust.

A ceramic-like biomaterial made from waste oyster shells and seaweed extracts. The intention of Ostra is to tackle the current operating system and supply chain of oysters, towards a more circular economy in the UK. Working with oyster shell waste from local restaurants, the design challenge was the disruption of oysters going to landfill through a meaningful and beautiful material in the form of purposeful product designs.

Design Opportunity
Oysters are a great source of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3), with a content up to 95%. Calcium carbonate is a main ingredient in the production of cement and concrete, and its mining in the concrete industry accounts for 8% of global emissions. While in this case it is seen as a valuable material, on the other hand paradoxically, massive amounts of Calcium Carbonate (in the form of shells) are produced as a by-product in the fish industry and discarded as a nuisance waste. Their collection, transportation, and disposal are harmful to the environment and cost money.

Ostra mimics the natural formulation process of the shells underwater using MICP, microbiologically induced carbonate precipitation with algae. Meaning that shells are combined with alginate, a natural ingredient found in the cell walls of brown seaweed, to create this beautiful sea ceramic that is recyclable and biodegradable. by @markos_designs
