TIME'S PLACE IN SPACE (2024)

is part of my longterm project 'Foukauld', in which I have - since 2004 - documented the disappearance and appropriation of the Atlantic Wall bunkers on Cap Ferret (Aquitaine).

The video work translates the changes I have witnessed over the past 20 years metaphorically as an ongoing metamorphosis of space and time. In a seamless loop, the bunkers are repeatedly deconstructed and reassembled — as sites in transition between memory, deconstruction, and redefinition. This process is not arbitrary; it is based on documenting the place and translating the results through code (no AI).

The visual language and morphing landscape and structures make visible the slow, continuous change brought about by time, climate, and everyday use — a process that often remains hidden from the casual viewer.

The visual part of the project was finished in 2024, the process, the (re)reading of lots of philosophy and Mediatheory in the Context of recent developments... resulted in a 24 page essay about photography, AI, palms, bunkers, their AI generated look alikes, Hermann Schmitz, Foucault, Böhme, Baudrillard, McLuhan,... SILO, Orlando

Last May (which marked the 9th anniversary of my 360 VR take on the Sunset Strip), I had the pleasure of joining @garyregester.photog from Ed Ruscha Studio and @senonwill for the Los Feliz Blvd shoot—part of Ruscha’s and @gettymuseum L.A. Street Archive. Here are some of my analog shots from that day and the Los Feliz slide with me waiting for them to pick me up :D

A big thank you to Gary, Susan and Ed Ruscha Studio for the invitation, and to Senon for the smooth ride.

Ten years into my #revisited project—which I began 50 years after the release of Ruscha’s iconic Every Building on the Sunset Strip — it means a lot to get even more insights and see (also in terms of procedural parameters) that the plan I had back then has held true: to create an independent, original work in dialogue with Ruscha’s project, but without aiming to simply copy his method and apply it to other sujets.

In this sense, we may meet at the same place, but — even with his projects and list of street (re)documentations still ongoing — our focus is directed towards different questions: about our media landscape, about processes of collage, and about how we perceive the world around us. This has held true and has become apparent to me already through my concept and exhibition setting, and through a decade of work, but also through the way the photographic shots and sequences of the storefront plane that Ed Ruscha pursues for the L.A. Street Archive come into being. The details of that however, I won’t spill here.

Trust The Rhythm EP

Sometimes the wind blows into one direction only. There is no way fighting it. The only thing you can do is trust the rhythm and stay true to yourself.

Everyone who knows me, knows that I have always had a deep appreciation for music. I have spent more than half of my life digging for records and djing... and even longer putting head phones on friends ears. Music, to me, is pleasure, journey and source of energy at the same time... so is spending time getting caught up in samples and loops when I need a time out 🌴 from everything else.

Means; I make this music for myself. Means also: Im already happy but I'm trying to learn to share and finish more of it... so if you digg what you hear and if you want to listen, you can do so via bandcamp #linkinbio and also on Tidal and Apple Music, at least for now.

Spotifynocando... Make peace, not war.

As part of Vienna Digital Summer III | Hybrid Creativity @artecontgallery Vienna I developed a 3D-sketch for a virtual space called SKY IS NO LIMIT. Gallery affiliated programmer @jonathan.leber made it accessible in-browser for VR Headset, Mobile, Tablet, or PC.

The work incorporates numerous materials from various projects and weaves together three interconnected thematic strands:

1. 3D scanned remnants of the Atlantic Wall on Cap Ferret, witness interview fragments, 360 VR from inside a bunker, ...

2. Generated visual worlds and forms of algorithmic Imagination, 3D modeled palm trees, AI generated 3D objects, ...

3. Urban topographies with media-reflexive narrative forms, Spactime collages, ...

"SKY IS NO LIMIT — Digital Pseudo-Places and The Algorithmized Global Village": In the 1960s, #marshallmcluhan coined the term “Global Village” to describe the profound impact of electronic media on the structures of time, space, and communication, producing a new form of collective perception. Today, in the age of algorithms, generative AI and virtual visual worlds, dynamics have evolved. While McLuhan’s “#globalvillage” emphasized shared simultaneity, Oberndorfer’s “Algorithmized Global Village” highlights differentiated pseudo-places — curated realities, governed by algorithms [...]
