Another walking meeting, this time through 4,000 years of music history.

Last week, I met up with my longtime friend Marni Wandner Ashby, founder of Future Present and someone who has always been ahead of the curve.

Marni was working in digital marketing in the early 2000s, before social media had fully taken off. Then, in 2015, she began connecting mental wellbeing, physical health, and high performance long before those conversations became mainstream in the workplace.

Today, she works with artists, executives, founders, and teams to help them perform at a high level without sacrificing their health or burning themselves out.
That made Musical Bodies at The Metropolitan Museum of Art the perfect place for our walking meeting.

The exhibit explores the connection between music, instruments, and the human body across thousands of years and cultures. We saw everything from ancient instruments and paintings to Prince’s iconic purple guitar, elaborate string instruments, and interactive displays showing how movement, voice, and even the body itself can create music.

As we walked through the exhibit, we caught up on the music business, leadership, wellbeing, the projects we’re each working on, and what it really takes to sustain a demanding career.

It felt especially fitting to experience this with Marni because her work is grounded in the same idea: the mind and body aren’t separate from performance. They are what make performance possible.

That is true for artists onstage, executives leading teams, and anyone trying to build something meaningful over the long term.

We ended the evening with dinner at Serafina 79 and kept the conversation going over a great meal.

One of the things I appreciate most about Marni is that she doesn’t just spot where the world is headed. She starts doing the work years before the rest of us realize how much we need it.

The response to last week’s post about my perimenopause program has been nuts.

And I get it - that’s exactly why I built this. There’s so much information out there, but it’s often confusing, conflicting, or just not feasible for the lives we’re actually living.

So I’m doing a free webinar on Tuesday August 4 at 4pm ET to talk about what’s happening during this time, what we can do about it, and how to get ahead of both the health piece and the career piece - without taking on another full-time job.

Yup - perimenopause post, comin in hot👀

After experiencing my own burnout and helping dozens of high-performers recover from and prevent their own, I thought I’d seen every version of “holding it together while everything is on fire.”

And then perimenopause showed up and was like “hold my beer.”

Trying to remember everyday words in the middle of a professional conversation. Waking up at 3am the night before speaking engagements and busy work days. Crushing fatigue, difficulty focusing, wild mood swings.
And the distinct feeling that the usual tools I rely on may not be enough.

So I did what I do - I dug in, started learning more, and put the learning into practice.

Here’s what I know:
- Perimenopause is disruptive and confusing, in all of the ways.
- It’s also a window of opportunity to set ourselves up for better health later in life.
- And it’s not just a health issue. It’s also a performance issue.

My work lives at the intersection of performance and wellness. And damn if this doesn’t sit squarely in the middle of both.

So I built something I didn’t see anywhere else:

A coaching program for high-achieving women who don’t have time for perimenopause to upend their lives and careers - and aren’t really sure what to do about it.

⚡️8-weeks. Small private cohort. Group sessions + 1:1 sessions. Virtual. Confidential. Customized via the transformational pattern-recognition framework I use with all of my clients.

Science, strategy, and support.

Truly thrilled to be joining the @recordingacademy ’s 2026 New Member Class.

20+ years in this industry, and it’s always come back to the same thing for me: supporting the people behind the music. From artist management to marketing strategy, and now as a coach/consultant/advisor - that’s always been my favorite part.

So I’m psyched to be a part of this community which does that at scale - supporting, advocating, and uplifting both music creators and professionals.

Being involved seat in these conversations means I get to keep doing that work, at an even bigger table.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to use my voice, contribute to the Grammy Awards process, and be part of conversations that help move our industry forward.

Thank you to Joyce Dollinger and Neeta Ragoowansi for the nominations!

Late on posting this because holy cow there has been so much going on but I didn’t want to miss a chance to highlight the work that @eccholive is doing to provide coaching and counseling (and so much more) for the live and touring community of the music industry.

I’m so grateful to have been onsite with ECCHO Live at @govballnyc a couple of weekends ago, to provide support backstage at the festival alongside fellow coaches Kasey Cleckler and Sarah Page and therapist Elisa Peimer.

There’s something about being in that environment that feels like home to me.

Maybe it’s having spent most of my life in the theatre that makes the behind-the-scenes chaos and collaboration feel familiar.

Maybe it’s having been on the road myself and having lived the reality of real-time problem-solving, the feeling of being everywhere and nowhere at the same time, and the camaraderie of navigating challenges when no one knows the answer because everyone just got there.

Whatever it is, it’s an honor to be able to not only support the people who need it - but meet them where they are WHEN they need it.

Here’s some more info on the work ECCHO Live does - both onsite at festivals and events and virtually on-demand: www.eccholive.com/what-we-do by @marniwandner

Music Biz recap comin’ in hot!!

So great to see so many familiar faces and meet a whole bunch of new ones. So many meaningful conversations, reconnections, fun hangs, and cool opportunities.

It was incredible to be able to have an important panel discussion about - not just “wellness - but about how exactly to build a wellness strategy into your actual business plan.

This is often the missing link - we know we “should” be taking care of ourselves, but it can feel like an add-on or an afterthought. This panel was about how to weave it in as part of the work - and the thing that makes the work sustainable for the long haul.

I also got to lead the opening welcome meditation for the @cacmusicgroup Wellness Lounge - guiding a room full of conference attendees through a series of grounding practices to leave them with a feeling of calm and focus that they were able to bring into the rest of their day.

The feedback was profound and truly I hope this becomes a thing at more conferences.

Thank you @musicbizassoc and to everyone who made it such a special week!! by @marniwandner
