a picture-perfect chilly/crisp/sunny/GLORIOUS october day in london - ideal for a stroll around marylebone & regent’s park, aka vesper holloway’s neck of the woods. one of my favorite parts of writing SPELLSTRUCK was creating a whole fictional version of marylebone full of posh magical families & secret magical clubs; one of my favorite parts of living in london is getting to walk the same streets as my characters whenever i want. 🥹 taken in Marylebone by @marthabwaters

if it’s the weekend before your book comes out & you very much want to NOT think about that fact (or much of anything about your real life), i highly recommend packing some sweaters & a stack of books, putting your phone on airplane mode, & running away to the lake district for a few days taken in Windermere by @marthabwaters

it’s the first day of autumn & we are 🍂 one week 🍂 from pub day for SPELLSTRUCK, my most autumnal book. this book took many forms in my mind & on the page in the 6 years between when i first had the idea for it & when i finished editing it, but one constant is that it was allllllways an autumn book. when i was writing, i wanted: fires burning in fireplaces, cozy interiors, wool jumpers, crisp sunshine, pots of tea & cups of cocoa, cold foggy moody days — and i tried to pour as much of that into the book as i could. it always felt like a fall book to me because of the ✨ magic ✨ but i think it’s the coziness that really makes it feel like an autumn book. just one week until you get all this warm autumnal joy for yourselves & i can’t wait to share it 🍁 taken in London, United Kingdom by @marthabwaters

september is my favorite month of the year. i used to be an october girlie, but living first in maine & now in england has taught me the gospel of september, the most perfect in-between month of them all. it makes me think of TO WOO AND TO WED, because i gave my love of september to sophie in the epilogue. this is the only one of my books to have an epilogue—because i couldn’t *not* give this book an epilogue—and it is the most self-indulgent thing i’ve ever written & i love it. i love this book; of all my books, it is the only one (so far) that i find myself absolutely desperate to reread. i spent so long planning for it, and spent so much of the time writing it worrying about it, that i almost don’t remember the book itself. i haven’t reread it yet — i hope in a few years to do a reread of the entire series, once enough time has passed that the prospect of rereading my own writing doesn’t make me cringe, so i’m waiting til then to revisit this one — but this one will always have the honor of being the one i was ready to revisit before any of the others. anyway: i love september & west & sophie & everyone who asked for this book for so long. 😘 by @marthabwaters

i posted my reviews roundup a few weeks ago & did so too soon apparently because SPELLSTRUCK got another 🌟starred review🌟! this is its second starred review, but most importantly, this is the second review to call the book “stylish” AND the second review to specifically mention champagne, i love this for me (tbh, vesper loves this for me most of all). it is out THREE WEEKS from today (how) & you can preorder your copy wherever you buy your books! 🥂 🍾 by @marthabwaters
