A super experimental workshop last Saturday at ClayFun Gallery, where we explored a series of techniques I developed while creating the works for my exhibition ๐“๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐„๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ก ๆณฅๅœŸๅฏป่ฟน. We mainly focused on Mocha Diffusion, experimenting with different slips made from local clays and gathered soils to create unique branching patterns. We also incorporated a variety of collected natural elements to add textures and impressions to tiles, plates, and other small ceramic pieces. ๐ŸคŽ A big thank you to everyone who joined: @sarah.guandiwu , @ria__desiree__ , @linyeew , @joigao006 , Shaoqi, Eric, and Tanuki! And special thanks to @yimin_qiao and @jin_chao_0812 for their support and amazing photographs! Earth, in the form of soil and clay, is a dynamic and responsive material. It continuously shifts, cracks, and heals, adapting to external stresses and giving rise to striking natural patterns. These forms emerge from underlying principles that can also be observed in the development of organic life, as well as in the ways we form relationships and experience emotions. Grounded in this idea, the exhibition unfolds through a series of ceramic vessels in which a scientific lens becomes a point of departure for personal reflections on universal forces, chance, and necessity. You are all warmly invited to join me for the opening, grab a drink, and to see my latest works! ๐€๐๐๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ: ๐Ÿ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐…๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ซ, ๐๐จ. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ, ๐‹๐š๐ง๐ž ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ, ๐‡๐ฎ๐š๐ข๐ก๐š๐ข ๐Œ๐ข๐๐๐ฅ๐ž ๐‘๐จ๐š๐, ๐’๐ก๐š๐ง๐ ๐ก๐š๐ข ๐Ž๐ฉ๐ž๐ง๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ: ๐“๐ฎ๐ž๐ฌ๐๐š๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ ๐’๐ฎ๐ง๐๐š๐ฒ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ:๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽโ€“๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”:๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ, ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ž๐ž ๐š๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง #exhibition #art #shanghai #clayfungallery #ceramics by @martinesamedeo
I really like how the works by @rashi.jjain and myself come into dialogue within the exhibition. Through similar earthy tones and perhaps even a shared approach to making, they seem to reflect experiences and inspirations gathered during our respective time at the CCCA Art Residency in Yixing. It's fascinating to think that, despite never having met in person, our works feel so connected, almost as if they were continuing a conversation and expanding upon one another. #heterogeneousgrowth #yixing #ceramics #art #exhibition by @martinesamedeo

๐Ÿงฑ One aspect I particularly appreciate about ceramics is its close relationship with industry. The systems, materials, and processes often overlap, creating a natural space for collaboration between artists, manufacturers, and entrepreneurs. This became especially visible during our latest visit with @_jacinto_munoz @yangxinguang1212 @lanxixicoli to a local brick factory in Yixing, which actively collaborates with renowned brands and entrepreneurs. As a brick lover, seeing the raw materials, test tiles, as well as the production scale was truly mesmerizing. ๐Ÿบ #brick #industry #ceramics #collaboration #yixing by @martinesamedeo
