What’s Up Mi Gente Creativa!!

The fifth and final day of the @chicanohollywoodfilmfestival had arrived, but it had a late start, so I wanted to take a walk. It was during my walk I came across Jose. I am truly grateful to have gotten the chance to meet him and have a meaningful conversation over some delicious Mexican Conchas y Bolillos. In this video Jose shares a bit about how he came to live in Pomona, CA., the struggles of being homeless in the time of ICE and the practical ways he finds hope each day.

Also the conversation is mostly in Spanish.

Every human deserves to feel safe and to be treated with dignity. Kindness, compassion and empathy is Free. Who is someone you can provide some Hope to today?

What’s Up Mi Gente Creativa!!

There’s never been a better time to be us, cause we are the storytellers the world has been waiting for.

Have you visited @rosewoodvintagepdx yet? Alejandro @dj_horchata is one of its co-owners. Such a cool Latino dude who is passionate about preserving the stories of vintage collectibles who I met at this year’s @portlandlatinfilm a couple days ago. When he shared that he owned a vintage shop, I had to come and check it out. Such a cool place filled with so many one of a kind collectibles. If you’re passionate about vintage collectibles, who knows, they just might have what you’ve been looking for. Come out and give him a visit, introduce yourselves and let’s support our local Latin businesses.

What’s Up Mi Gente Creativa!!

There’s never been a better time to be us, cause we are the storytellers the world has been waiting for.

Bad Education (La Mala Educación), is about a successful film director Enrique Goded who is visited by an aspiring actor claiming to be his childhood sweetheart and former Catholic school classmate, Ignacio Rodríguez. Film director, Pedro Almodóvar has a unique and incredible way of telling this story. He used a narrative structure approach that blends reality, memory, and performance in such a way that had all of us at the edge of our seats from beginning to end. The cast was incredible with an unforgettable performance right from the get-go. Felicidades to the cast and to the film director.

So grateful for @mariaosterroth and the incredible work her and her team have been doing over the years which has been to showcase perspectives of Latin American culture through an exploration of Latin film and increasing the visibility of Latin American cinema here in Portland, OR. The live classical guitarist was such a nice touch before the film. Mil gracias Maria for the invite for that evenings showing.

If you haven’t had a chance to come out yet, no worries, the @portlandlatinfilm will be running through Nov 18th. So get your tickets 🎟️ Popcorn 🍿 drinks🥤and a slice of Pizza 🍕 and ready to be immersed with the rich culture and stories of Latin American cinema. Who knows, we just might bump into each other. Cuidate y Que Vive La Raza.

Whats Up Mi Gente!!

Many of you know Gabriel from his family bakery business in Stark and in Beaverton called, Dos Hermanos. Their bakery provides some of the best quality pastry bread in the Pacific Northwest. Today, the Farmers Market community in Troutdale was introduced to Gabriel’s newest family business venture yet, called, Nuestra Familia Bakery. Come out and meet them on Saturdays. Once you’ve tasted their bread, not only will it make you feel like family, but it will all make sense why they are here in Troutdale, OR. Grateful for their family presence, their family bread, and their family story.

Also, just to keep it real here, I used Ai to remove the table from the background so you could see all the information on their banner.

Ways you can support Nuestra Gente:
- Follow them @nuestra.familia.bakery
- Share their story
- Come visit them
- Invest in their bread
- Hire them to cater

What’s Up Mi Gente Creativa!!

There’s never been a better time to be us, cause we are the storytellers the world has been waiting for.

What an incredible time it was getting to come out to yesterday’s Art Exhibition hosted by @emerald.paints.the.skye and her creative team. As you’ll see, each art piece was beautiful, unique, profound and at times intense. Each one, inviting you into their story of the present, of the past and of the future. What made that evening even more special, was getting to hear more about the back story to some of the paintings from very artist themselves. We continue to be so blown away by how uniquely gifted, passionate and talented our creative community of storytellers are here throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Thank you again to Emerald and her team for making this art Exhibition possible for introducing us to the amazing artists that make up some of our creative community. Keep creating and sharing your art and stories with the world. We see you and are so very grateful for your presence and creative voices here in the Pacific Northwest. We can’t wait to go to the next one.

Grateful to have gotten the chance to attend @mecha.pdx first Latino/Chicano outside event here at the @uportland . As you can see, it was an amazing time coming together como familia to celebrate nuestra cultura, support one-another, and to watch the screening of multi-awarded documentary called, @rollmodelzdocumentary . Thank you again @yahirfilm for inviting us into the incredible story behind the community of lowriders in Walla Walla, WA. Can’t wait to attend more of these amazing on campus events. So proud of the students, aztec dancers, and vendors that came together to make this event possible for our Latin community. Que Vive La Raza!

Whether your beginning to look into where to study at or pursue a Chicano/Latin degree or maybe just looking for a campus that celebrates Latin culture and provides a community for you, I couldn’t recommend the University of Portland enough.

We are Chicanos On The Rise and there’s never been a better time to be us, cause we are the storytellers the world has been waiting for.

Are you a part of The Grove Post community? Join Chicanos On The Rise and receive monthly snail mail by the creative and talented Artist, Wanda. This September her art piece speaks on “Letting Go”.

Some Take-Aways from Wanda’s Wisdom:
“There’s something unsettling about loosening your grip on something you still have the choice to hold onto. Even when we know it no longer serves us, the familiar can feel safer than the unknown….What looks like a loss can be the very space we need for something new”.

As you take a moment to reflect, what areas of your life do you feel it may be time to let go in order to make room for something new?

Check out WithTheTrees.com to learn all about The Grove Post and how to join the community along with Chicanos On The Rise. Together, let’s continue exploring the beauty, the wisdom and the wonder that nature has to offer us in every season.
