What’s Up Mi Gente Creativa!!

We are Chicanos On The Rise and there’s never been a better time to be us, cause we are the storytellers the world has been waiting for.

Are you a part of The Grove Post community? Join Chicanos On The Rise and receive monthly snail mail by the creative and talented Artist, Wanda. This October her art piece speaks on “Thresholds”.

Some Take-Aways from Wanda’s Wisdom:
“There’s a difference between standing still and preparing to move. Not every transition requires a dramatic leap, and preparation is its own kind of movement. Leaves are turning, days are shortening and the landscape is slowly shifting from one season to another. We’re standing in between, watching one version of the world give way to another”.

As you reflect on the season you’re in, where might you be sensing an invitation to slow down, listen more deeply, and pay closer attention? Perhaps this is a season of growth and preparation, making space for what is yet to come.

Check out WithTheTrees.com to learn all about The Grove Post and how to join the community along with Chicanos On The Rise. Together, let’s continue exploring the beauty, the wisdom and the wonder that nature has to offer us in every season. Gracias Wanda!

What’s Up Mi Gente Creativa!!

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more.” - Melody Beattie

“Life” is something we all have in common with. We experience it everyday. And life at times comes at us in waves of joy, sadness, excitement, peace, doubt, longing, trauma, victory, loss and at times with great difficulty. Counting your blessings, means to set aside time to pause and check-in with yourself. As you put this into daily practice, you’ll not only see how blessed your life really is, but how some blessings aren’t always as obvious as others. Counting our blessings isn’t about ignoring the hurt, the loss, the frustration or even the answers we are seeking, but in the midst of that reality some of us are facing today, what is giving us hope? What is helping us hold it together.

Here are some questions to help you get started,
1. What season am I currently in?
2. How am I doing or feeling today?
3. What’s happening around me?
4. Who are the people in my life?
5. What has come into my life lately?
6. What losses have I experienced?
7. How’s my family, my job or health?
8. When I look out into creation, what do I see or feel?

Where are you sensing the invitation to express or explore gratitude? Sometimes, you discover blessings where you least expect to find them. Life is funny sometimes when we come to realize that these blessings were always in front of us the whole time. All we just needed to do was to simply give ourselves permission to see them with a different set of eyes.

Can You See Your Blessings Now…

There’s never been a better time to be us, cause we are the storytellers the world has been waiting for.

Have you visited @rosewoodvintagepdx yet? Alejandro @dj_horchata is one of its co-owners. Such a cool Latino dude who is passionate about preserving the stories of vintage collectibles who I met at this year’s @portlandlatinfilm a couple days ago. When he shared that he owned a vintage shop, I had to come and check it out. Such a cool place filled with so many one of a kind collectibles. If you’re passionate about vintage collectibles, who knows, they just might have what you’ve been looking for. Come out and give him a visit, introduce yourselves and let’s support our local Latin businesses.

What’s Up Mi Gente Creativa!!

There’s never been a better time to be us, cause we are the storytellers the world has been waiting for.

Bad Education (La Mala Educación), is about a successful film director Enrique Goded who is visited by an aspiring actor claiming to be his childhood sweetheart and former Catholic school classmate, Ignacio Rodríguez. Film director, Pedro Almodóvar has a unique and incredible way of telling this story. He used a narrative structure approach that blends reality, memory, and performance in such a way that had all of us at the edge of our seats from beginning to end. The cast was incredible with an unforgettable performance right from the get-go. Felicidades to the cast and to the film director.

So grateful for @mariaosterroth and the incredible work her and her team have been doing over the years which has been to showcase perspectives of Latin American culture through an exploration of Latin film and increasing the visibility of Latin American cinema here in Portland, OR. The live classical guitarist was such a nice touch before the film. Mil gracias Maria for the invite for that evenings showing.

If you haven’t had a chance to come out yet, no worries, the @portlandlatinfilm will be running through Nov 18th. So get your tickets 🎟️ Popcorn 🍿 drinks🥤and a slice of Pizza 🍕 and ready to be immersed with the rich culture and stories of Latin American cinema. Who knows, we just might bump into each other. Cuidate y Que Vive La Raza.

Whats Up Mi Gente!!

Many of you know Gabriel from his family bakery business in Stark and in Beaverton called, Dos Hermanos. Their bakery provides some of the best quality pastry bread in the Pacific Northwest. Today, the Farmers Market community in Troutdale was introduced to Gabriel’s newest family business venture yet, called, Nuestra Familia Bakery. Come out and meet them on Saturdays. Once you’ve tasted their bread, not only will it make you feel like family, but it will all make sense why they are here in Troutdale, OR. Grateful for their family presence, their family bread, and their family story.

Also, just to keep it real here, I used Ai to remove the table from the background so you could see all the information on their banner.

Ways you can support Nuestra Gente:
- Follow them @nuestra.familia.bakery
- Share their story
- Come visit them
- Invest in their bread
- Hire them to cater
