Saturday spin was just what the doctor ordered!

No better way to get back into form than rides in groups like these.

Saturday’s @maap.rides thru a bunch of local pueblos to send shout outs to the women in the Paris Roubaix peloton was dope.

Looking forward to many more like this - where connecting with others meets miles over rolling country roads - over the Spring 🌼.

Blessed ride to check on the H2O levels of the nearby Susqueda Dam after all the recent rain we’ve gotten.

Up to 40-something percent (after 8%) less than a couple years ago so we’re all very thankful for that.

All in all, a wonderfully productive ride, mentally and physically, spiritually.

These pics are from the end of February.

Guillaume and I had crossed paths at the foot of the climb to Llorà after a long ass hiatus. As he always thought outside the box with a bunch of secret cutty routes and b-roads, he took me up and over the newly paved pass that now links the Vall de Llémena to Amer.

On this particular day, he was toying around with a new filter and we had a jolly ol’ time! I’d long been wanting to get some snaps at the curve in front of of Sant Roc so we stopped and did just that.

I didn’t know this would be the last time we’d see each other, but it’s a damn good memory to have of you because it was a real hoot.

Longest ride in a loooong time. Fitness is down and legs are beat, but fun level is on ten!

A bunch of flats and loss of rhythm would seem like a bummer, but no better day for it! Help along the way, Vitamin D absorption, and some good chats more than made up for it…

So much positivity today! Zern, Staş, and I got up before the 🍑 of dawn to do this race and it was a real hoot 🦉. 74 km w/ 2,200+ meters of elevation made for an action packed outing 💥. Run down ⬇️:

Met a bunch of great folks.
Got some sun ☀️.
Saw some monkeys 🐒.
Both legs cramped at the same time. Then one at a time 😂 for the Zern and me. Got some salt 🧂 which went right to work.
Awesome mountain ⛰️ top finish.

After not riding for a minute, I’m quite sarisfisfied with 96th of 632 finishers. Very tired. Very happy, indeed‼️

First couple of jet lag-fueled rides in Taipei. Wild how the species of trees changed as we climbed the misty mountain, which was situated in one of the island’s 16 indigenous tribal areas (“Atayal,” but the “A” is silent).

We also spotted not one, but 3️⃣ of the island’s super rare forest quails.

Oh yeah, they have a handful of native bears here, too. Learning so much!!

Bike Stuff - Uo, these GoodYear/Zipp tires x 353 NSWs took these trails like a champ. Even on the descent, when I fish tailed in this one curve they found their grip nicely.

Random Thoughts from Taipei Part I - This is my first time in Asia and so far it has been a life experience that one cannot describe with mere words; it has to be lived, tasted, smelled.

“The East” is called the “Orient” because the word “Orient” comes from the Latin word “oriens,” which means “rising” - referring to the fact that the sun rises here. So far, I can attest that it’s certainly an orientation class that many of us native the West can learn from.

For instance, the cancerous individualism (AKA “normal” in America) is all but non-existent here; individuals here know very well that without community they are nothing; it’s a part of their social and cultural DNA. There is no such thing as a “self-made(wo)man,” but, unlike in America, folks here are aware of this fact and their daily interactions with one another is proof.

The island is so, so lush; you have to beat the plants back with a stick to keep them from taking over everything, which can happen with the quickness.

There are 16 indigenous tribes native to the island, each with their own distinct languages, cultures, and traditions. The government hasn’t been the best at preserving their ways of life, but the younger generations and (ironically) the churches are filling in this gap.

I look forward to sharing more of my cycling, culinary, and cultural experiences/learnings with you all…in the hopes that they help open minds and hearts.

For Hammerhead ambassador @martymartinho, cycling is more than just a sport or hobby; it’s a community that cares for one another. As a founding member of eight riders that make up @the_blackfoxes — one of America’s collectives of black cyclists — he strives to make cycling more accessible, especially for those underrepresented in the sport.

Always having a relationship with bikes, Marty spent his adolescence and early adulthood in Chicago skateboarding downtown and socializing with bike messengers. He later got his Ferrari-red Fuji track bike - quickly realizing that cycling is a literal journey that offers something extra.
