I’m on an excellent mini-break - to Goondiwindi and then circling home via the New England Tablelands. Saw a beautiful garden near Tenterfield today and spoke with its creator Carolyn Robinson who has the heart of an artist. The garden links its lush green exotics back to the wild rocky hills with the occasional black trunks of Iron Bark trees and other reckless, lawless natives. The season is one of the driest on record and the creek is low which all adds to the gardens triumph #eaglesbluffgarden taken in Tenterfield, New South Wales by @marvene_ash

The works in one of the two studio rooms is currently about the making hand - the creating hand - these hands are drawn with that intention in mind - using colour and line tensions by @marvene_ash

‘Exhaust Fan’ - I often have a sensory response to manufactured things - stoves, fridges, heaters, fans etc

Lathe - chalks over gouache, 75x106cm, details and earlier version in Jon’s workshop. Woodworking is no.5 on a list of hot skills that attract women (on instagram this morning, so it’s fact) It follows reading, foreign language, musical instrument and cooking! I’m always very impressed with all types of can-do though and these drawings seem to be circling that idea of practicality by @marvene_ash

This is what happens when you get a really good photographer into the studio - a bit of a break from all my snaps. Thank you @christinehallphotographer for these and all your wonderful artwork installation shots. I have uploaded many of them on @thefourthgaragestudio 😍✨ by @marvene_ash

A Forest Red Gum (from nearby Conondale)a Hoop pine (from down the road) and a Tallow wood Tree (from over the hill) hang in a corner of Jon’s workshop where all types of local timbers are crafted into useful and beautiful things. These single tree ‘portraits’ were done for a 2014 exhibition which celebrated the wood in our dairy shed home. I’m spending my days drawing in this workshop at the moment so it’s nice to see them there by @marvene_ash
