My 44th book of the year! I really enjoyed this one! The funny thing is that I can 100% see how other people may not enjoy it. But I really liked it, even though of course I had a few issues (I can never read a book and not have issues.) I’m excited to read her other book Pineapple Street now!

I’m catching up on my reviews & unfortunately I’ve read a bunch of blah books this summer! I started off reading this and it was so boring I switched to audio, I did finish it but it was a total dud for me. Not thrilling enough to be a thriller. Not mysterious enough to be a mystery. Just very lackluster to me. Such a bummer!

I literally have not heard one bad thing about this book, but Country People was not for me 😬 I just thought if was boring? Unrealistic? Like someone writing about what they THINK small towns are like, but they don’t really know? I grew up in a tiny small town in Virginia, and there are FOR SURE the town quirks, but this book was just…going nowhere the whole time? The whole time I couldn’t wait to be done, so happy I finally finished it 😅#countrypeople #fictionbooks #reading #readmorebooks #alwaysreading by @marysbooklists

The Wedding People was one of the first books I read this year, I went in completely blind & totally enjoyed it! It really surprised me, which doesn’t happen often these days 😆 Did you enjoy this one?

Whistler is the only Ann Patchett I’ve ever finished! I know people are crazy about her, but her stories have never landed with me. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I was enjoying this book, even thinking I needed to go back and retry some of her other books-until I got to the end. It felt incredibly unsatisfying to me, I feel like I read a lot of different genres, including the classics, but with books look this I always feel dumb because I don’t get it? I mean, I GET it, I just don’t enjoy it. I suppose I like my books to end with a pretty bow, and this one just landed so flat. Disappointing, since I thought it was really going somewhere.

I did not care for this book, to be honest I read it because of how popular it is & I heard they were making a tv show, I never even read the synopsis and that’s on me. I thought the title was intriguing but turns out it really doesn’t have much to do with the novel (IMO.) A lot of badly behaved rich people, not really my thing. Hopefully the show is better!

One of my top books of the year! It wasn’t perfect, the end bothered me a little bit, but I couldn’t put it down. It is not an upper, so don’t expect warm and fuzzies, but it was such an unexpectedly good story!

I truly loathed this book, I don’t like to be inside an evil or gross protagonist’s head and that’s what this book was. I treasure my children so much and I really disliked being inside the head of an awful mother. I also thought the “twist” was, frankly, stupid. I know I’m being a bit dramatic, but I don’t really know what to say other than I really didn’t like it 😂 I actually tried to return the book, since I pretty much only listened to it on audio, but I missed the return window so I’m now selling it on Facebook marketplace. I need to earn some of my money back on this one 😂

I really enjoyed Raising Hare, and if you saw my stories a couple weeks ago you would know I think I would have enjoyed it even more on audio! There was a lot of very technical and descriptive observations about how the hare groomed herself, what she looked like etc which of course was pertinent but probably would have gotten even more out of it if I had listened to it. Overall I learned sooo much about hares and even rabbits, and their habitats etc. 4/5 stars for me!

I got this in a Little Free Library in California and it will be going in a LFL in Utah now 😂 This book was interesting but I didn’t really like it that much. I had really high hopes after Station Eleven, and there were parts of this that made me thoughtful, but overall I didn’t find the story incredibly interesting.
This sat on my shelf for almost exactly a year and I’m happy to pass it along now!

I really enjoyed this book! Nothing too exciting, so if you are in the mood for something fast-paced I would skip this for now. It’s simply the story of an old lady corresponding with friends & family, and we get glimpses into her often sad life. The stuff with her son really got to me 😭😭 Five stars from me!

I really liked Normal People but have now read every Sally Rooney book and can confidently say she’s not for me 😂 I read this in August and rated it 2/5 stars on Goodreads. I love glimpses into European life, which I think is what draws me to her, but her characters are so unlikable, I just can’t anymore 🤦🏼‍♀️
