Running roughly from Memorial Day to Labor Day (ish) on Mondays, Windy City Wiener Wars might be my favorite Chicago chef series. Under the calming gaze of Michelle Obama hosted by @perillafare on their patio for a second year now, 2 top local chefs take @viennabeef hotdogs, adding their personal twist to it and turning it into masterful yums. $25 gets you both dogs, a bag of chips and the chance to vote for your favourite. Democracy at its yummiest. @312reviewer was with me for this one which made it that much more enjoyable. Last weeks was insane; imagine this ! @marzlet @thattuchicago with @chefberrygoodevents for the assist conjuring up a Sadya dog : a celery thoran paying homage ( or dare I say making an improvement) to celery salt, a banger bbq sauce and a curry leaf tadka on each dog that was so on brand with her style VS @thai_dang_ from @cryingtigerchicago and @haisouschicago who took what a glizzy ought to be in essence and let his imagination run wild with a Prawn toast dog with a killer nam jim. Oh and this year @marzbrewing even had this limited addition yuzu n/a soda that was off the hook! I had quite a few of those. Besides the obvious deliciousness, what makes this one of my favourite west loop happenings is that I get to enjoy these yums with some lovely friends every time. The usual suspects who always show up for the community to support. Shout out to @blinkofalens @gee_thurteen @daegusdad @bestfoodalex @foodisyourbudi @nickyeatsdrinksruns and hosts @tomoh44 @andrewjlim Glizzys were devoured, votes were casted and Thai took the 🏆👏🏼 There’s only one more left for the year and it’s next week it’s gonna be another good one. ( perilla vs perilla no holds barred) I’ll see you there. The yum was collected 😎 @srosens #windycitywienerwars #chicagoeats #yumwalla #westloop #glizzy by @marzlet

Tonight, we’re celebrating Thiru Onam, the tenth and main day of Onam. According to legend, Thiru Onam the occasion to welcome back an ancient king of Kerala, Maveli, who comes to visit his subjects. We’ll be closed tonight for our Thiru Onam celebrations, but will open again tomorrow for our usual dinner hours. by @marzlet

Celebrate Onam at @thattuchicago 🧡 Onam is our harvest festival in Kerala, that’s celebrated with a vegetarian Sadya filled with fresh produce with minimal spices, showcasing the bounty of the land. It lasts 10 days, culminating on the main day, Thiru Onam, which falls on August 26th this year. According to legend it is also the occasion to welcome back an ancient king of Kerala, Maveli, who comes to visit his subjects. The king was banished to the underworld by jealous gods because of his popularity and is allowed to return once a year. This year, we’re celebrating with a traditional vegetarian Sadya, served on fresh banana leaves and eaten by hand. We’ll have approximately 15 dishes including dessert. The celebrations will also feature a traditional flower carpet (pookkalam) to welcome the king Maveli, and you can participate in creating it, too.  You have 8 chances to celebrate Onam with @thattuchicago this year: Just added! 🗓️ Friday, August 21 at 6pm 🗓️ Friday, August 21, at 8pm 🗓️ Saturday, August 22, at 11:30am 🗓️ Saturday, August 22, at 1:30pm 🗓️ Sunday, August 23, at 11:30am 🗓️ Sunday, August 23, at 1:30pm (sold out) 🗓️ Wednesday, August 26, at 6pm 🗓️ Wednesday, August 26, at 8pm Plus, we are thrilled to be joined by @southasiainstitute for our Thiru Onam celebrations on Wednesday, August 26, with a portion of the proceeds from that evening’s Sadya dinner benefitting their organization. Talk about a full circle moment 🥹 ㅤ Earlier this week, our chef and co-owner @marzlet had the opportunity to speak with @SRAMMTB about her origins, culinary journey, and her relationship with biking for their AAPI month lunch and learn series. ㅤ If you know about us, you know she’d had an incredible culinary journey, but you may not have known she’s also big on cycling 🚲 ㅤ She learned to ride in her late 20s so that she could go mountain biking with some of her first friends she made in Chicago and, just a year later, she trained for a century bike ride in Lake Tahoe. From making friends through training for half triathlons (shout-out Jin!) to a half Ironman triathlon, biking became a big part of Chef Margaret’s life. ㅤ It even became how she started commuting to work long before she was cooking in kitchens. During her first food sales job, she used her first paycheck to buy her favorite red bike - a nod to her job in ketchup sales ㅤ Biking became her way to get to work, her way to explore new cities and their food scenes, and a way to meet and connect with chefs. ㅤ So to be invited by @mvatana and SRAM to speak and share her story in biking and the food industry, plus share our @thattuchicago dishes was truly a day to remember. ㅤ Thank you @mvatana for the invitation to speak, @exxterminate for putting the program together, and @the_reel_dj_fish for interviewing Chef @marzlet 🙏 ㅤ 📸 by@mvatana ㅤ by @marzlet
