Today I resisted the siren call of the beach and stuck to my plan to finish all these half-completed paintings.

What is he thinking about?

This fox’s tail was facing the wrong way.

Whiskers remain a challenge.

I wore the same hat at one of my cooking jobs.

My phone assembled some of my photos from past July 30ths. 2017 in Chicago, 2018 flying home from Lisbon via Montreal, and 2019 in Lisbon and Porto (both times for the Urban Sketchers Symposium). by @mascarapony

One minute, non-dominant hand blind contour sketches. I used reference photos of Ozzy Osbourne, Marianne Faithfull, and Ian McCulloch. I painted the backgrounds in advance. Such a fun exercise. by @mascarapony

Late night participation in @bethspencerart’s #uglybutterflychallenge. It’s 3 in the morning. Here are my ugly butterflies accompanied by a poem by Mary Oliver called One or Two Things. I haven’t painted in a week so hopefully this will get me back to the palette when I wake up tomorrow. by @mascarapony

A skulk of foxes on my kitchen table. Hopefully I’ll finish these up today. Four of them need to be in the mail by Tuesday. . #foxart #foxpainting #insidersstudiofoxes #idlehands by @mascarapony

Another fun class from @insidersstudio and @amanda_evanston. I added some medieval ruins to my tulips garden and imagined myself reclining in the grass in the English countryside. The second painting suggested water peeking through the trees, so I emphasized that and added a horizon. Happy Spring! by @mascarapony

Thirteen new paintings. All 5x7, except for one 4x6. I worked on all of them at once, starting with the background, then adding the flowers, vases, and shadows. A productive class from @insidersstudio and @amanda_evanston So much fun. by @mascarapony

I’m enjoying painting these fairy godpossums from a class in @insidersstudio. I’m recycling an old calendar with the first painting. The second one isn’t quite finished. The third photo shows her protective comic book coat to keep the splatter only in the sky. In the third one, I really like the pink background and I’m trying to figure out how to make it work. The last photo is me with white paint splatter on my face and near my eye 😂 by @mascarapony

Some recent work in my kitchen studio. The first painting I started today. Armadillo with President Jimmy Carter and Hank Aaron, inspired by my trip to visit my friend Rachel in Atlanta last year. The armadillo is a little brass sculpture and I took a photo of Jimmy and Hank at a Hank Aaron exhibition. The heart notebook covers are being varnished, the painting with the butternut squash is a background layer for a future painting, lots of hearts from classes in @amanda_evanston @insidersstudio, in various states of progress. After @sketchbookskool, Amanda’s Insider’s Studio has had the biggest effect on my art journey. She is joyous and fun, inspiring and encouraging. I have made so much art since I joined in November and have had a great time doing it. If you’re feeling stuck and like what you see on those two accounts, I highly recommend joining. Enrollment is only open once or twice a year, and it’s open now. There’s a February flower challenge going on now, and a new class every week. Recent ones I’m very interested in are a memory map, a quilt-inspired tulip, and the fairy godpossum one, the result of which is in one of those slides. Playing with paint and collage is the perfect thing to do on a snowy day. by @mascarapony

I really enjoyed making this sun and moon combo from a class from @amanda_evanston @insidersstudio The last few days (13 months, or eleven years) have been stressful, infuriating, and sickening. So this afternoon I embraced whimsy, color, and fun. We all need to take a break from the news (those of us who are privileged enough to be able to do so. Some people don’t have that luxury). by @mascarapony

My work table, or as others might call it, the dining table. Since joining @amanda_evanston in her @insidersstudio a few months ago, I have made so much art, had lots of fun while creating it, and I’ve really enjoyed the very active and welcoming community on our Facebook group. I’ve even sold six small paintings! Looking forward to seeing where all the fun classes and projects take me this year. by @mascarapony

NYC was the place to be back then. So many concerts, all the time. Sometimes we’d go to two or even three venues in one night. It was common in the early 80s for bands to come on after 1 in the morning. The Cure at the Ritz, for example, in ‘81 or 82. 1:20 start time. Richard Hell once started at 3 am!
The shows pictured here were at the Pier or Central Park, so they started at 7 or 8. I still lived on Long Island, so we’d hop in my fast car and I’d speed into Manhattan, easily find a parking spot on the street, and stroll into the show. Let’s Go came out when I was seventeen so the lyrics, “she won’t give up ‘cause she’s seventeen” felt like they were written for me. It was nice of WPLJ to give out these cool buttons that have managed to stay with me all these years. I have the ticket stubs too. #livemusic #newwave #rockandroll# #the cars #cheaptrick #gangoffour #talkingheads #elviscostello taken in New York, New York by @mascarapony
