After relocating to Los Angeles in 2018, designer Courtney Robinson’s clients discovered their Spanish-style bungalow in the city’s heart and knew it had potential. Courtney and her firm, @materialsmethodsdesign, worked closely with the couple to ensure the major hubs of the home functioned and lived well, creating the space of their dreams in the process.

Happy Mother’s Day!
To all the mamas, aunties, and women who have filled that role for a human who needed you.

My first Mother’s Day feels….sacred. Being inducted into a special, and honorable club feels divine.

When I was manifesting this business throughout my years at Howard, I remember above all, thinking of motherhood. How I wanted to be an available mother. An ambitious mother. A mother who displayed creativity unapologetically and on purpose. Cardi B’s lyrics “I need cheese for my eggs” just hits different now. This studio is as much for me as it is for my family. I can’t wait to walk sites with my baby, share my passion with my baby, and show this little human that you can be whomever you want to be. You get to choose how to show up and what mark you will leave on this world.

I’m so happy to be chosen as your vessel. And I cannot wait to meet you!

Amoake Baofo’s solo exhibit in Los Angeles is a celebration of art x architecture x interiors. I felt welcome in the home he created for us to absorb his paintings in large scale, up close and personal.

I discovered Amoake’s work a couple years ago through a coffee table book and have admired the vibrancy in which he showcases Black beauty. One of my favorite elements are the combo of deep purples, caramel browns, and rich mochas to capture the richness in our skin tones. Truly a celebration of Black beauty.

We just wrapped a major office overhaul for thee @issarae 🙌🏾 and honestly, we’re obsessed.

She needed a space that felt equally calming and inspiring. An environment to really fuel her creativity. So, we delivered a soul-soothing retreat, grounded in laid-back Southern California luxury.

Ten years ago, I met these clients just as they purchased their first home in Brooklyn. I was early in my career, they were at the start of building their life together - and that project became one of the cornerstones of my journey as a designer.

Fast forward: they’re raising a family, I’ve founded my studio, and they’ve just purchased a brownstone in Flatbush. This time, they asked me to reimagine all four stories of their home - balancing beloved historic woodwork and details with the color, personality, and layers that reflect who they are now.

It feels like a full-circle moment designing the backdrop for the next chapter of their lives.
