I've always been hesitant to use my account for commercialized use, but when my friends from @vinifikant told me about their new concept with @gourmetengros I knew it was something I would be able to vouch for. Epikur is a quarterly curated shipment of 3 beautiful wines alongside selected edible goods with either caviar or truffles as the main ingredient.

Being based on autumnal flavors, I knew I'd love this one, and containing both Spätburgunder from Baden, long elevage Riesling and Meunier based Champagne, I couldn't say no 😇

Selosse showdown at @capo.aarhus, team was kind enough to offer up most of the allocation at very fair prices along a delicious dinner!

Not too many notes from this evening, but I do want to include I really loved the rose, which I didn't expect to. Beautiful oxidative, bready along red fruit, peaches, flowers. What a wine! It's a shame they're so expensive. VO was almost too much in a way. Quite boozy and heavy. Substance is just such an insane wine, but I did find both initial and Rose to be more balanced 😇 Oh, and Premices is just such an insane wine. Beautiful reduction, oxidative notes and spices in unison

As @extra_brut_vinimport once said, if there's Murmures on mag, you get Murmures on mag. Absolutely stunning bottle. Insane aromas of coriander seeds, flint, oister shells, white flowers, green apples, comte rind. Intensely ouillé but with that subtle oxidative touch. Just absolutely beautiful! Thanks to Noémie and team at @legrapiot for a beautiful and fun evening - as always 🫰

Emmanuel Houillon

On our last day in Jura, I gave a blinder to @passione_di_vina and Manu, and we shared a few words about the wine. I explained to Manu we had stayed in Pupillin and knocked in his door. A bit later, Gio asked us if we wanted to join a tasting at Chez Overnoy the day after, on the day we had to leave. Naturally, we had to book another night in Pupillin and stayed for another day 😅

At the domaine, Manu explained us about the differences in vintages, heat, dryness and how they treat the wines somewhat differently according to the challenges of the season. We tried the following wines:
Chardonnay 2018 - 7 years elevage
Savagnin 2018 - 7 years elevage
Poulsard 2025 from tank
Poulsard 2023
VSO 2012
VSO 2010

As always, the white wines of Pierre and Manu are just magnificent. An extreme intensity, depth and energy in all of them. The chardonnay 2018 was a standout, along the VSO 2010 which I had adored every time I've tried it. Such an incredibly complex wine with eternal energy. It's hard to pinpoint the aromas and flavors of such a wine, honestly!

Both reds were delicious albeit very young. The 2023 was showing some nice development with lots of ripe jammy strawberries and cherries, and the VA in both were very low - something I've somewhat struggled with in the reds before. I'd love to revisit 2023 poulsard sometime in the future.

Thanks to Gio and Manu ❤️

I've been slacking on posting / writing anything about wine lately. Maybe it's the heat... Here's a few thoughts, anyway!

Premice base 2023 is just an insane wine. Heavily impacted by the winemaking style, obviously, with a vivid mix of reductive and oxidative aromas: gunpowder, sesame seeds, herbs, sweet bruised apples, big body but with lifting acidity. So tasty!

Sous le Viaduc 2022 was singing too. It's truly impressive how a new winemaker is making wines like these with such short elevage. A weird mix of slightly oxidative, but also leesy ouillé-style, with lots of delicate spicy notes, candied and salty citrus fruits, white flowers, long lasting mouthfeel and acidity. What a beautiful wine. I hope to see the same quality in newer wines from Loic.

Last but not least, a house favorite, Chardonnay Savagnin 2020 from Labet. The fact that this wine is still among some of the lower regarded wines from Labet is incredible to me. It is honestly as close to a perfect wine as you can get for me. An amazing harmony of oxidative wine with the electricity and intensity of an ouillé wine from Labet. Just a killer wine in all aspects!

Dare I say I sense a theme in the wines I enjoy 😅

It's been a while! Here's some wines I've enjoyed recently.

Murmures Savagnin from 2020 was really, really tasty. Somewhat shy in the beginning, but lots of beautiful citrussy and floral aromas along oister shell aromas, pear and matchsticky reduction. I really wish these wines were easier to find (and enjoy in bigger pours...)

@niklasbargmann did a fun voile-inspired tasting with some great wines. Big surprises in both Gahier Fauquette and Grapperie La Diablesse. Amazing wines with long lasting intensity, coating mouthfeel and bright acidity. I either had an off night or the wines were a bit sweet.... well. I detected a bit of sugar on most of the wines that night, and the Diablesse was probably the sweetest feeling. les Roches 2016 was a fun wine to try - bit felt a bit thin and short lasting compared to the other wines. Like a light vin jaune/fino-type wine. Weird but obviously quite legendary! Cuvee Venus and Labet En Chalasse, both with long elevage, were amazing. The high alcohol doesnt really bother me in these wines as the intensity is just off the charts in all aspects. While they were quite similar the Labet just had that extra gear of saltiness, fatty, leesy mouthfeel and lots of spices and sweet fruits, without becoming cloying or dense. I know it's a one trick pony but it really does the trick for me! So did the 2019 en chalasse which felt quite similar, although quite a bit more soy-like.

Speaking of long elevage the Grands Teppes with 84 months of elevage was just incredible. Classic Ganevat-style with super focused florality, salty lemons but also quite a bit of caramel-like, sweeter notes. Could do with some more age but honestly feels pretty ready at this point. Le Rouge de Champavant 2023 from Popy was beautiful. It's been a while since I felt moved by a Jura red, but this was right up my alley - clean, but with some tension, raspberries, strawberries, white flowers. It almost feels like a cliche to describe Jura (wines/) reds at this point, but what a tasty wine! by @mathiaslaustrup

LNDLV PART III

Last but not least a cozy dinner at @aubergedebellevie. Such a beautiful space, atmosphere, honest and tasty food with an insane wine list. We couldn't not drink the 2014 Overnoy Chardonnay which earlier has been one of my all time favorites. Looking at the lot number, we noticed it said bottled in 2025, which seemed a bit strange, but Manu, sitting right next to us, confirmed it indeed was bottled after 11 years of elevage 🤯 Absolutely incredible wine once again (which might have been a different wine than the two other times I've had it haha) with an incredibly pungent and floral nose, honey, pollen, pears, caramel. Absolutely bonkers. And of course, bottles were being thrown around and we got to try a few other wines among 2018 Chardonnay, 2020 Beaumette and the new Calice, which also tasted incredible!

We also had a quick stop at new promising young winemakers @domainedespetitesmains in beautiful Passenans. Definitely someone to keep an eye out for!

LNDLV PART II

2021 Nuit Blanche from Tournelle was tasting incredible, and the reds too! Clean, juicy and fresh. 2016 Kagami starting to be ready and absolutely banging, 2021 tasting razor sharp but very promising! The 12 year Vin jaunes from Tissot were amazing aswell, and such an interesting experience to see the differences in profiles from the two different plots!

Onto an amazing lunch at @legrapiot with some special bottles: 2018 Overnoy Savagnin was just the right bottle to start out with. Some of the fatty, ripe 2018 density but with ever-gaining acidity and freshness, slight oxidativeness and a beautiful long finish. No Vin jaune this year, but 2012 VSO was a great standin. Less fatty than the 2010, but still with great length, salinity, ripe stone fruits, nuts and spices. Such a special wine! And of course, too much cheese...

LNDLV PART I

Having somewhat recovered from our trip to Jura, here's some thoughts and notes.

Roumier 22 was tasting quite available and insanely tasty. @extra_brut_vinimport does pretty crazy blinders. @troussardphilippe is an amazing host at @hotelrestaurantlescaudalies and we had a really great time there for lunch. The Bruyere Nouvelles 17 might have been the best wine we had the whole trip. Absolutely incredible combination of eternal power, acidity and slight oxidation. Beautiful bottle, I'll definitely have to try and find one!

@alessandra_viscardi still chugs Bourgogne from the bottle 🫰 and @extra_brut_vinimport once again brings a deadly blinder in the form of a magnum 2014 Ganevat Sous la Roche, and the winemakers dinner (party) was not only pretty chaotic, but also brought out some pretty crazy bottles of which I only photo'd a few 😅 taken in Poligny by @mathiaslaustrup

Loire tasting at @capo.aarhus a few weeks ago, which quickly became a champagne blinder fest 😅 Too many things to mention, but the Leroy 2015 was once again an absolute stunner, and I'd love to revisit it again soon. Breze 2012 was a bit of a letdown while Les Poyeux 2002 (once again) was beautiful. Of the Batardiere, Simons was the obvious winner to me, whereas his brothers wine seemed a bit dull and lackluster to me. Les Nourissons 2014 was quite interesting aswell, quite obvious oxidative flavors but with well kept freshness and acidity. I personally don't love the style of winemaking, but it's definitely interesting to try. I'd prefer some more depth and reduction as in the Leroy 😌

I mistakenly opened this a few weeks ago, thinking it was a simple Macon Villages... Upon the first sniff I realized I had made a gruesome mistake, having opened a bottle I'd saved for a long time with @madsmarksthespot. Sorry buddy 🥲

Oh well, nothing left but to drink and enjoy it. These wines are quite special, both for the producer but also the area in general, having a really, really long elevage, which definitely also shows. Deep nutty, spicy aromas along crunchy acidity, fresh saltiness, sweet apples, lemon zest and some sweetness in the backbone, maybe from botryris? A quite round and balanced but also dense and intense experience. Just beautiful!

I'm looking forward to tasting the 2008 which I of course had to buy to make up for the mistake 😅

Some amazing bottles from last weekend - the Overnoy was just emotional. Incredible length, freshness and intensity! An array of salted lemons, honey and pollen, elderflower, ripe stone fruit, pears. Subtle oxidation but always keeping the momentum and power. I really need to find one of those again and keep it for 10 more years!

The Calice was just as I remembered - intense, fresh, meanwhile also oxidative, oily and with lots of depth. How this wine only has 6 months of ouillé is just such a mindfuck. Incredible!

The Aunis was served blind by @madsmarksthespot and I was not really close at all haha, tricky blinder and super tasty! It's definitely a grape I should visit more often, as I'm often quite impressed by the more "serious" wines made with it. Sour cherry, deep ripe blackberries and currants, slightly herbal and green but also quite depthful. Trousseau-ish vibes in the more "serious" end! Delicious :)
