On Thursday night I was very proud to join Robert Simms MLC for a MotoGP community meeting at Unley Town Hall.

This was an opportunity for South Australians to have their say on MotoGP and the destruction of our Park Lands.

Rob committed to take the feedback of the community to Parliament so our community could be heard, despite the Government’s sham 3 week consultation.

Thank you to Rob, Senator Barbara Pocock, Katie McCusker and Sean Cullen-MacAskill for speaking and making this event possible 💚🌳 taken in Unley Town Hall by @matmontisa

Yesterday the State Government and The Advertiser attacked @edwinkemp and our movement claiming he was selected specifically so the Government couldn’t recoup costs.

What a crock of sh*t, Edwin has risked everything in this case, and this article is just classic spin from the Government, trying to set up justification to pursue costs.

This is a dangerous precedent that would silence South Australian’s and dissuade them from pursuing legal action against the State Government if it’s in the public interest.

Not very democratic from the Malinauskas Labor Government. by @matmontisa

@murraypwatt plz come to Adelaide xoxo 🌳💚🪧

Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt has the opportunity to put an end to the destruction of your Park Lands.

So I’m inviting him to come on down to Adelaide and see what all the fuss is about.

This morning, ABC Radio Adelaide spoke to Shaya Nettle, Senior Manager of Toward Home Alliance, about the removal of people sleeping rough at John E Brown Park.

Listen carefully. This comes after the Government publicly claimed that Toward Home Alliance was among the services that had engaged directly with people camping at the park in the week before they were removed.

For the past two days, I have been accused of lying and misrepresenting what happened.

We told you what we witnessed. We told you what the men themselves told us. And we told you that when the fences went up, it was community members who were there advocating for them and helping them find somewhere to go.

Now listen to what one of Adelaide’s major homelessness services has to say.

To be clear, this is not criticism of Toward Home Alliance. They do vital work and could undoubtedly have supported these men better than we did. Our criticism has been and is of a Government claiming it did “everything possible” while according to this report failing to ensure specialist homelessness support was there when these men lost access to their camps.

@pmalinauskasmp the invitation for a public retraction of your comments insinuating that I am dishonest stands.

@pmalinauskasmp has publicly accused me of making “false accusations and misrepresentations” about what happened to people experiencing homelessness at John E Brown Park. That is a serious allegation. So let me be very clear about what we actually witnessed.

Premier, you stated that outreach was undertaken on earlier dates. That does not answer what we are saying. We are telling you what happened to people who were still at John E Brown Park when access was restricted on 1 October.

Three homeless men told us they had not been approached or supported. From when the fences went up that afternoon until midnight, and again the following morning, we saw no homelessness services present. The “practical assistance” you describe bears little resemblance to what we witnessed.

SAPOL told one man he needed to leave. Later that evening, police escorted another man back inside to retrieve his bag — after we had spent hours advocating for him. Earlier, when we called police asking for help to get him back in, we were told it wasn’t a police matter. The other man was disabled and used a walker. Security brought what remained of his belongings to the gate: a damaged tent and his clothes in a rubbish bag.

It was community members who found him somewhere to camp that night, moved his belongings and helped put his damaged tent back up so he had somewhere to sleep.

We did that. Ordinary citizens. Continued in comments…

Malinauskas Labor would rather spend $150 million on Bread & Circuses than fixing homelessness or ramping! 💰 🏍️ ⛳️

Over the past 24 hours we’ve seen Malinauskas Labor start destroying the Park Lands again less than an hour after a court ruled in their favour.

Kicking rough sleepers out of the Park Lands so they can build a driving range… this is the Malinauskas Government’s priorities. taken in Adelaide Park Lands by @matmontisa

Someone take his X account away…

Can confirm for Mick we did not move from door to door to drown out locals. We made noise to ensure the Premier knew we were there.

Apparently there were plenty of people in the room supporting our movement. Good to know! ✊🏼💚🪧 by @matmontisa

When we are looking for allies to defend our Park Lands, it is @thegreenssa who stand with us. 💚🌳

When we need supporters in Parliament it is @robsimms84 and @melanieselwoodmlc who put their hands up.

If other parties want to join us and stand up for our movement I’ll give them their kudos.

But I won’t ignore the reality that the Greens are a party fully committed to protecting our Park Lands in Parliament, and other parties could learn a thing or two from them. taken in Unley, South Australia by @matmontisa
