It is incredibly depressing to watch unfolding ecocide and the 6th mass extinction happening before our eyes, but there is hope.

FROM 1 DECEMBER 2026 | ADELAIDE’S EAST PARK LANDS

We’ve rallied. Marched. Petitioned. Written letters. Stood vigil. And still, the State Government is pressing ahead with plans to carve a MotoGP circuit through our precious Park Lands.

Hundreds of mature trees, irreplaceable habitat and public open space remain in the firing line.

Now it’s time to step things up.

From 1 December, the Gum Leaf Guild, is coordinating a MASS PEACEFUL PROTEST in the East Park Lands.

This isn’t another weekend rally. We’re mobilising for a sustained community presence to peacefully oppose, disrupt and delay the destruction.

AND WE NEED YOU.

✊ SHOW UP – Commit whatever time you can. Chainsaws and bulldozers don’t wait for weekends.

🌿 SPREAD THE WORD – Bring your friends, family, neighbours and colleagues.

📣 GET INVOLVED – Help with organising, recruitment, logistics, welfare or creative protest.

You don’t need protest experience. You just need to care about our trees, wildlife, public spaces, democracy and accountability. We’ve deliberately chosen 1 December, after the Adelaide 500. But if destruction starts earlier, we’ll be ready.

📣When the time comes will you be there to protect our wildlife and the species edging closer to the brink? Deforestation, habitat destruction and fragmentation is bringing so many species closer to extinction. They cannot successfully be relocated which means death and often one that is slow, painful and terrifying for the animal, while it’s business as usual for most people, because these deaths go unseen.

The stored carbon of over a thousand trees Labor (with One Nation support) will fell for Liv Golf and Moto GP during a climate and ecological emergency is despicable. and in this urban park environment. It is a last frontier for many species.

Trees are our greatest weapon against climate change and to help cool our residents, visitors, wildlife and pets.

🌳🪓 The tree fellings and the plans for the track will kill irreplaceable critical butterfly habitat, sending the species to extinction!

It will also impact Botanic Creek and other crucial waterways in the vicinity.

💔The race itself, after the Adelaide 500, will never give wildlife s chance to recover.

Shameful that Labor really hates Mother Earth and her stewards. Heartbreaking cowardice.

My Private Member’s Bill to add the Adelaide Park Lands to the State Heritage Register has just passed the Upper House… it’s now over to the Malinauskas Government to back it in the Lower House so it can become law.

WE ARE NOT WAITING. WE ARE ORGANISING.

We hear your concerns about 1 December and the fear that it may be too late. We share the urgency. 1 December is a strategic date, not a decision to sit back and wait.

With significant construction planned for the Adelaide 500, distinguishing those works from MotoGP preparations may be difficult. We are NOT protesting the Adelaide 500. We are opposing the destruction of our Park Lands for MotoGP. We must keep that message clear.

December gives us a focal point to identify and peacefully oppose MotoGP works. But if credible information confirms destructive works will begin earlier, we must be ready to act sooner. We are committed to defending our Park Lands, not a date.

We’ve marched, rallied, petitioned and protested. Now we need MASS MOBILISATION. THOUSANDS. That takes planning, coordination and commitment.

In the meantime, attend roadshows, support existing actions, talk to your neighbours and bring your friends. Make the commitment NOW to be there when the call comes. Register via the event link (in the comments or in events on our FB page).

We know people are exhausted, frustrated and frightened. But division and disengagement only make the Government’s job easier. We can’t promise we’ll stop the destruction. But giving up guarantees we won’t.

And if this Premier proceeds, we must bear witness. South Australia must remember what happened, who made these decisions and who stood against them. Accountability doesn’t end when the chainsaws stop.

Don’t mistake preparation for inaction. Coordination for complacency. Or strategy for surrender.

Stay engaged. Be ready to move. Stand together.

This morning, ABC Radio Adelaide spoke to Shaya Nettle, Senior Manager of Toward Home Alliance, about the removal of people sleeping rough at John E Brown Park.

Listen carefully. This comes after the Government publicly claimed that Toward Home Alliance was among the services that had engaged directly with people camping at the park in the week before they were removed.

For the past two days, I have been accused of lying and misrepresenting what happened.

We told you what we witnessed. We told you what the men themselves told us. And we told you that when the fences went up, it was community members who were there advocating for them and helping them find somewhere to go.

Now listen to what one of Adelaide’s major homelessness services has to say.

To be clear, this is not criticism of Toward Home Alliance. They do vital work and could undoubtedly have supported these men better than we did. Our criticism has been and is of a Government claiming it did “everything possible” while according to this report failing to ensure specialist homelessness support was there when these men lost access to their camps.

@pmalinauskasmp has publicly accused me of making “false accusations and misrepresentations” about what happened to people experiencing homelessness at John E Brown Park. That is a serious allegation. So let me be very clear about what we actually witnessed.

Premier, you stated that outreach was undertaken on earlier dates. That does not answer what we are saying. We are telling you what happened to people who were still at John E Brown Park when access was restricted on 1 October.

Three homeless men told us they had not been approached or supported. From when the fences went up that afternoon until midnight, and again the following morning, we saw no homelessness services present. The “practical assistance” you describe bears little resemblance to what we witnessed.

SAPOL told one man he needed to leave. Later that evening, police escorted another man back inside to retrieve his bag — after we had spent hours advocating for him. Earlier, when we called police asking for help to get him back in, we were told it wasn’t a police matter. The other man was disabled and used a walker. Security brought what remained of his belongings to the gate: a damaged tent and his clothes in a rubbish bag.

It was community members who found him somewhere to camp that night, moved his belongings and helped put his damaged tent back up so he had somewhere to sleep.

If today has shown us anything, it’s that this fight is far from over. The future of our Park Lands will not be decided by one judgment, one project or one day.

There are still battles ahead and we need to be ready.

Ready to show up. Ready to stand together. Ready to defend our Park Lands wherever they are threatened.

Destructive works in the East Park Lands are expected to begin in early December.
