We’ll also have a new beer on draft, Uncharted IPA, along with our usual selection of fine wine, cocktails, cider, sodas and non-alc options.

I’m excited (this is a massive understatement, btw!) to welcome writer and translator @jencalleja_ to Bloomfield on Wednesday, October 21. Jen will be in conversation with writer Stuart Ross to celebrate the launch of her new book, Fair: The Life–Art of Translation.

If you’re a regular at the bookshop, you’ll know how much I care about translation in literature, so I am beyond thrilled to be hosting this event. I hope you’ll join us for what is certain to be a brilliant conversation between two incredible writers.

Jen Calleja is a poet, writer, and essayist. She has been shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize, the Oxford-Weidenfeld Prize, and the Schlegel-Tieck Prize as a literary translator from German into English, and was the inaugural Translator in Residence at the British Library. She is also the author of Goblinhood, Vehicle, and Dust Sucker.

Stuart Ross is a poet, writer, and editor who has published 23 books of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. He won the 2023 Trillium Book Award for The Book of Grief and Hamburgers, and his writing has been translated into French, Spanish, Nynorsk, Slovene, Estonian, and Russian.

Wednesday, October 21 at 6pm at Matron Fine Beer, 65 Barkers Lane, Bloomfield. Free, no registration required, and everyone is welcome!

A few signs of fall around here.

Pumpkins out front, the Cowgirl tees are back on the rack, and so is our Catron tee in a fabulous new shiitake + pink colourway.

It’s Poke Blossom‘s last hooray for this season. It’s been delightful to watch these ladies continue to crush it. Their fresh, flavourful dishes leave visitors smitten and we’re lucky enough to have front row seats.

Guys, we don’t want to gatekeep just how spectacular the County is in the fall.

The good light, the quiet roads, long lunches, hot coffee, cold beer, and nowhere you particularly need to be. There are so many beautiful places to eat, sip, wander and spend an afternoon- the busy ones, the quiet ones, old favourites and places you might not know yet.

Justin shares a few of ours here, but we left plenty off the list. Partly because there are too many. Partly because discovering them for yourself is half the fun. Partially because @justindasilva loves to talk and this video would be eight minutes long if he had his way. by @matronfinebeer

BYO BOOK CLUB IS BACK FOR SEASON 2!

We’ve said goodbye to our beloved Dune Hopper Brewery and are super excited to settle into our new home this fall at Matron Fine Beer.

Starting Thursday, October 1, join us every Thursday evening from 6 - 8pm for nice chats, good beer and a chill, cozy reading time. Plus brewery cats. 🐈‍⬛

BYO Book Club is a zero-pressure, no-homework book club. There’s no assigned reading, just bring yourself and whatever you feel like reading. And if you need a new book, I will have a small, curated selection from The Wandering Albatross available each week.

Matron Fine Beer is located at 65 Barkers Lane in Bloomfield. All are welcome, and non-alcoholic drink options are available.
