Another year another post I guess! Old one from Peter Rabbit 2. Mrs Tiggy Winkle being a bit scary! Part of the job was to illustrate the animals in a Beatrix Potter watercolour style while still matching them to the CG animals. The other part was to do them in a more commercial modern style for billboards and promotions. Hence posing for the billboard! Watercolour, pencil, photoshop.

Hurr, I'd forgotten all about this! A Gundam statue (not a proper Gundam) in front of a building whose name I've forgotten. I think it was only in the film for like half a second, but they must have spent a lot of money on the Gundam licence for a little amount of screentime in the Pacific Rim world!! Just some rough comps/renders for choices. Pac Rim 2: Uprising. Or as it was known at the time to us, "Maelstrom". More fun from Furiosa/Big Jilly. Because why not! Crow-like/shredded tyre angel wings for the berserkers picking at road-carrion. Going for more of a scarred pierrot thing than the usual clown faces as befitting the "Fellini" brief, with the usual mix of post-apocalyptic and eighties pop-culture satire thrown in!

Furiosa - '48 Mercury with rear/spear gunner. Prod Designer Colin Gibson asked if I could do a few in Fury Road concept artist Peter Pound's pen and squeaker/marker style, so I did! The Y-fronts for a mask were my fave thing I think. Sitting pretty on an old Eames chair with ottoman! Not often you get to be part of a project you can be proud of. This was one. Based on artwork for a possum skin cloak by Aboriginal artist Theresa Ardler. And realised as a life-sized scale bronze by Julie Squires. Project overseen by Anne Sykes. After a Pshop concept I took it to a full-scale final sculpt in Zbrush, making allowances for the bronze requirements. Then it was output in foam and Julie took it to reality! Although monuments to Captain Cook are a dime a dozen, there has never been a landmark at Kamay Botany Bay to recognise the indigenous people of Australia who were already here, and for tens of thousands of years. Yes the whales are seen in the bay. From Peter Rabbit 2. This was just a test/initial warmup to see if I could get in the flow and feel of Beatrix Potter's gorgeous watercolours, which I love. But doing it digitally in photoshop for speed and control down the line and so on. So one is my version the other the original. In the end I did all the Potter-painted stuff traditionally/in watercolour, and the advertising agency poster and billboard art digitally, in a more Hollywood/Drew Struzan style. The biggest challenge in the end was actually being accurate to the CG bunnies, but making it *feel* like they were Potter's because it was meant to be her painting them in the story. I even got to give Rose Byrne painting lessons to fake it!

More Furiosa stuff. "Big Jilly" design. In the post-apocalyptic world of Max, things have always been very fluid. Jilly has a longhorn hairdo, Shiseido/pierrot face, One Ferragamo platform boot and one KISS disco one. I also wanted to get a dose of Aussie icon "Aunty Jack" in there! Didn't make it through but fun to do!
