Hunting is just as much about the people you share it with as it is about cutting a tag. Who I hunt anymore with is what makes it special.

Grinding 6 days straight in near zero temps wears on you and to deliver a lethal arrow to a special deer like this in the final, dwindling moments of the hunt makes it even more memorable.. watching his antlers turn away followed by drawing my bow and settling the pin at a mere 35 yards is what bowhunting is about. I’m thankful to have lived such an experience.

A successful hunt will always be the result of small decisions, efforts and persistence compounding over time to produce the end result, and while I was the fortunate one to hang my tag on this deer, I know it’s because of effort and help of others. A team contribution through and through.

I’m excited, I’m thankful but most importantly appreciative of the good people I shared it with. Hope it’s not the last time I’m blessed to hunt with them all.

My mind constantly wanders to future adventures, things I’ll be able to teach and share, all while hoping she enjoys our time together..

Life’s a little different now, and I have not doubt it’ll continue to surprise me, but I know today and every day to come will be the best it’s ever been.

Most of the little I share to social media anymore revolves around surface level hobbies and things that truthfully don’t matter in the grand scheme of life..

I’m not known for being short winded so I’ll share my thoughts on what I’ve come to realize is the greatest blessing of life’s journey so far.. the opportunity to be ‘Dad’

I’ve run from the calling of fatherhood for many reasons.. Most of them selfish but the greatest of all is not wanting to have my heart broken.

I’ve watched good men’s worlds be shattered for many reasons and while I attempt to portray a ‘tough dude’ front in my life, I’m a pretty tender human. When I love something or someone, they get all I can give. The fear of that not being reciprocated has crippled me from taking this step.

Despite my attempts to ‘prepare’ and ‘be ready’ I knew that time would never come and I let it be the excuse to kick the can down the road and avoid the possibility all together.

My sweet Darby continually expressed her desire to have a family and the important calling she felt in her life to become a mother.. She is so good with kids and has a gift for handling and teaching them. It’s one of her God given talents.

Knowing this all to well, I had the sour realization that as her partner, and spouse in this life, I was single handedly depriving her of something she so firmly believed in.. even after all the years of unwavering and non-stop support she’s given as I’ve wandered through life and attempted to accomplish the things that make me proud and fulfilled. It was a heavy feeling.

When Darby told me she was pregnant, I honestly wasn’t surprised. I wasn’t scared. I wasn’t worried. I’ve had faith my whole life that every moment, challenge and opportunity is what I’m supposed to live in this life. Maybe I’m overly optimistic but I just don’t worry about much.

As we round 3rd and head into the final weeks of waiting, my excitement and emotions continue to rise. I can only hope my heart is growing as fast as our little girl so I can give her the love and attention she deserves.

In the end, I’m glad I “wasn’t ready”. I never would have been. Im ready for this new chapter. Amazing times ahead..

Fun to have these clips to replay and relive the moment of truth..

Wild, free range Stag in Argentina is pretty unreal.. experiencing the roar and watching these magnificent animals for hours on end makes for a true once-in-a-lifetime trip.

For inquiring minds, shot was 260ish yards off shooting sticks with a .300 win and 180 core lokt.. not my rifle or ammo of choice but as always, shot placement is king. by @matthew.b.davis

Amazing way to kick off the 2025 season chasing wild, free range stag in Argentina!

Unreal experience to dip my toes into red deer and I can guarantee it won’t be my last. These things are gnarly, unique and unbelievably beautiful.

Even more stoked to share it with good friends and my sweet wife. Nothing but top tier memories on this trip 🔥

Death hike for elk followed by a double header of chasing chuks with @thehippieuplander was the recipe for a good time this past weekend.

Little vitamin ‘I’ to put us on the mend and back in the saddle to do it all over again.. damn, I love the chase.
