Cwrt-y-Gollen
Monolith or Menhir, take your pick.
Also known as The Growing Stone.

Lots of folklore surrounding this stone. One story is that this red sandstone pillar is alive and actively thrusting upward from the earth. Legend says that the stone grows out of the soil over time.
In Arthurian lore the monolith was not naturally formed but was hurled by King Arthur. The story goes that Arthur was gathering sheep on the nearby mountain of Pen y Gaer when his hound bolted for shelter into a nearby ancient tomb. In frustration, the King threw his spear across the valley toward his dog; the standing stone is said to mark exactly where the spear landed.
Another piece of folklore ties the site to Stonehenge. Petrological studies have suggested that the stone is made of the same Old Red Sandstone as the Altar Stone at Stonehenge. Whatever the truth this is a majestic stone full of personality and well worth a visit.
