Memories began flooding back from 20 years ago as soon as I smelled the familiar pines of Flagstaff. Went by my old residences and places of employment, as well as the venues we'll be playing soon! Reconnecting with old friends, and finding myself overwhelmed with observing all that has changed, and all that is just as i recall. The weather is perfect for camping, and i ventured on to find a secluded spot deep in the Coconino National Forrest area. It was breathtaking and rejuvenating to say the least. taken in Flagstaff, Arizona by @matthewdethrow

a little preview of an instrumental song i’ve been working on. jamming it out with @matthewdethrow and @coletoanscale. trying to see how i can use travis picking with some different rhythms and feels. this one would be good for a whimsical stroll. #travispicking #thumbpick #fingerstyle taken in Ashland, Missouri by @matthewdethrow

little late night porch jam with old friends, New Orleans players @matthewdethrow and @coletoanscale. Coleman is biking across the country from Oregon to Delaware, so he happened to be passing by our farm. Probably been about ten years since i’ve seen Cole. great player. here’s a little clip of him soloing over a little instrumental tune of mine. taken in Ashland, Missouri by @matthewdethrow

chipping paint, mutt dog, bass fiddle, insanely loud cicadas. chill version of Blue Bell with half time snare. that’s how i hear merle travis songs in my head, not flashy and rockabilly-fied. playing my beautiful @eastmanguitars T64/v. #travispicking #thumbpick #fingerstyle taken in Missouri by @matthewdethrow

We haven't camped at the same spot twice yet. I'm so grateful for this dog, he motivated me to really enjoy life and seek peace and happiness. Before this endeavor, I was so busy playing sooo many shows. Leaving less time with Buddy. I was exhausted and stressed about making rent ( which has quadrupled in the last 7 years). I decided not to to participate in this ruse. When the cost of living increases, and the pay rate decreases... its unsustainable.
Playing music and entertaining people is the greatest career I could ever hope for. And I'll do whatever it takes to make it sustainable. Even if it means living out of my truck for a few years. Who knows? We'll see. Just gonna live for the now and travel as much as possible. #fulltimemusician #dapperbassist #matthewdethrow #independentmusic #uprighbass by @matthewdethrow

Found this Crider version on Youtube and it inspired me to really learn thumb picking. Recorded this quick hitter with my friend Matt who’s been playing jazz and jug band bass in New Orleans for 13 years. i’m playing my new favorite guitar, a @godin_guitars G-Tour through a Fishman Loudbox. And of course my @blackmountainpicks, which have become essential for me. taken in Columbia, Missouri by @matthewdethrow

Thank you Lake Ouachita, Arkansas. I strive to hit as many new spots as I can now that im mobile again. This place was the best experience I've had in a long time. It rejuvenated and healed my soul in a way that I'll always cherish. All of this wouldn't be possible without Buddy, him coming into my life.. motivated me to make it as enjoyable as possible. Time is precious, life is short, and there is much beauty to be found outside of our comfort zones.

Almost 6 years ago, I adopted my angel. I've had so many ups and downs, twists and turns, and Buddy's always kept me going, hoping, and loving. Unconditional love and friendship, I'm forever grateful that @super_helpful united us. So happy for all the friends that light up when he's around. All the businesses that welcome us in and give him water and a treat. All the venues that allow him to join me on stage during shows. Thank you 🙏 taken in New Orleans, Louisana by @matthewdethrow
