#MatthewFFisher :: ‘Wales’ :: 2022-26
- -
Started during the last World Cup four years ago, on point to be finished earlier this year. Inspired by son’s interest of the Welsh flag and #RogerBrown classic silhouette figures, I love the idea of turning a flat image, the flag, into a full rendered image. In a funny way, the opposite of what #JasperJohns did.

Opening soon at Taymour Grahne Projects, Dubai, ‘The Sun Years’, a solo show by Manhattan based artist Matthew F Fisher (@matthewffisher).

‘The Sun Years’ presents natural phenomena as a series of crisp, flattened forms and here, we renew our acquaintance with his acclaimed stylised seascapes, the characteristic shells and clouds and horizons that have captivated him, in varying permutations and relationships, for years.

On view from 21 November 2025.

#MatthewFFisher :: ‘The Golden Years’ :: 2026

Opening next weekend: Happy to be included in A Beach Scene, a
collaborative exhibition with @bluedoorbluedoor @halfgallery and @____mrs.____ presented on Martha’s Vineyard, on view from July 3–5, 2026 at
the historic Tashmoo Springs Pump House. ‘The Golden Years’, with the shell placed on the canvas’s bottom edge, feels like a shelf, trompe l’oeil in its placement before the frozen breaking wave. A perfect moment caught, before the depicted world changes. The title is a reference to the years I have spent painting waves and shells. taken in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts by @matthewffisher

The wave has been an important motif in my work for the last fourteen years. The wave has always been a symbol of the power of water moving across the ocean. As the wave approaches the shore it rises up, ultimately crashing down on the beach before slowly returning from where it was created. I have always enjoyed the visualness of this moment, the cresting wave. To have the chance to see my waves on a
@rob_machado shaped surfboard, an object that moves over the water,
using its power to propel the individual forward, was extra special. Waves are like days. Each one is unique and lasts a finite amount of time before it ends and is followed by another one that is similar but oh, so, unique. The days we see. The waves we ride.

Shared Waters: Artists & Shapers for@larubeyasurfing brings together
leading artists and surfboard shapers to create a collection of one-of-a-kind surfboards benefiting Laru Beya Collective. Each board begins in the hands of a shaper before being given to an artist to paint, alter, or reimagine, transforming a functional object into a
collaborative work of art. Bringing together the cultures of art and
surfing, Shared Waters celebrates the surfboard as both a vehicle for
creative expression and a means of access to the ocean. Proceeds from
the auction will support Laru Beya’s year-round youth programming.
